Esteban Flores, executive director of the Latino Research and Policy Center in Denver, calls Tancredo a bigot who is trying to use racial division to further his career. He compared Tancredo to George Wallace, the outspoken opponent of desegregation.
So, does that mean the rest of us can now start referring to Villiarosa in L.A. as Hitler? Or, perhaps, as Castro, more to the racial point here. Just asking....

This is a total recipe for disaster.

Yeah, I am fastly approaching that point, too, as a voter. I definitely do not want to see Hillary Clinton reusing the Executive, but I am also very much no longer tolerant of a GOP that finds illegal immigration convenient (whatever).
The GOP either has to declare a point on illegal immigration or just get out of the way but so far, they allude to legislation but refuse to do much to enforce it (equalling "finding illegal immigration convenient"). Bush has so far never spoken out against it with any plans or purpose, for starters. He just remains "non positioned," publicly, which bothers me.
If illegal immigration bothers him to nay degree, he should be straight about it and say so. If he finds it 'impossible to control/patrol our borders' then he is pretty well saying that he's going to turn away if/when presented with the problem.
No guest workers, no illegal immigration...enforce our existing laws and severely penalize anyone in the U.S. who employs illegal immigrants. The banking industry is looking more and more complicit with each passing hour.

I don't agree. I think it's a very reasonable projection as to possibility. Particularly with Hillary Clinton now clambering to be the 'anti immigration' goal post.

Sadly, we as a nation can't handle Condi Rice in the Presidency. The most militant and unpredictably insane nations and despots and terrorists worldwide hate (1.) black people and (2.) women and (3.) U.S. in that order.
A black female in the Presidency would just be an invite for, say, Venezuela to go ballistic and Castro to invite himself to throw the first ball at the next Yankee's game.
They'd force the U.S. to use military force just to enforce the speed limit in our own country...I really respect Condoleezza Rice but there is no escaping that she epitomizes all that is "beneath" them to the most unreliable males in our world who happen to rule nutcases in their own populations.
I'm thinking even Vicente Fox would take C. Rice in the Presidency as reason to announce that he was the governor of California.

As I saw it. Tom was asked a question, If Islamic/Muslim terrorists detonated an Atomic device in the US would it be appropriate to respond in kind? The answer was yes. And now the press is going Goldwater!I first saw it with Eugene McCarthy. My first year out of college, a classmate was a "local" reporter, and I went along for the press conference. Eugene McCarthy was a soft spoken, eloquent, analytical man with ideas on every imaginable topic. His solutions deserved to be explored, some rejected as nutty, some embraced as true solutions.
Instead, the papers spoke of this anti-war nutcase who wanted to destroy the US.....it must've been the evil twin of the person I heard that night.
PS: I can't think of anything he said that night that didn't end up being an accurate assessment of things to come....and that includes what he actually did say about Viet Nam.
My point...it's not only Goldwater the press went Goldwater on. Even if I didn't agree with what Tancredo said, I'll defend his right to say it, and be represented fairly, just as I did (and still do) with Dennis Kucinich.
If we don't defend Tancredo's right to be considered as a serious and deserving candidate (along with others), we'll have two choices.....another person with the same resume as all of out "choices" last time, or Hillary (who also has that resume, but sometimes she bothers to figure out what concerns people have).

Being popular is one thing.
Being popular in that Adolph Hitler way is another.
Tancredo does really care about our nation, but his lack of wisdom will place him in a position where he can do nothing to help.
We always talk about how those on the left are easily identified because they always operate in emotion, and not fact. Tom Tancredo is doing the same. What an idiot he is for destroying any possibility of entering the debate.

word Bigotry.what C**ppy conservatives you are. Tom has more GUTS and hutspah than any of you so called republicans. Tom is sounding the alarm and you all would rather talk than think about solutions. I'm done.
Maybe because the Anti-Immigration crowd sound a bit too much like guys who want to wear bedsheets and burn crosses. The problem that anti-immigration crowd has is it is entirely too emotional. It leaves the impression, like the Know Nothings of the 1840s-1850s, that they have hidden reasons for their anti-immigrant propaganda. Right now the Hard Right sounds like a bunch of bigots who fear anyone with skin a shade darker then they are. Before Tancradeo and the Anti-immigrant crowd will be taken seriously by the vast center of American politics, they have to come up with some specific detailed ideas. Simply spewing slogans like "Arrest all the illegals" or "fortify the boarder" just makes the anti-immigration crowd sound hysteric and mentally unhinged to the average voter.

Since most polls show that the SUPER MAJORITY of people want the borders closed and the illegal alien problem stopped somewhat invalidates your quote above. Try again....

Tom Tancredo has been called a one-trick pony of a politician, a man out of step with his party, a bigot. Now that's an unbiased lead that sets the reader into the proper frame of mind.

which gave us 8 years of clinton."
Actually it was the republican party that gave the US 8 years of the Clintons with "No New Taxes" and "No More Erections".
Ah NO. It was political nitwits on the Hard Right who took seriously Bill Clinton's campaign propaganda about "a middle class tax cut" and Perot's propaganda about "eliminating the deficit". After 3 decades following politics I have discovered the secret for the Hard Right. They are not really interested in the messy job of actually building a coalition and ruling. They would rather stick out on the political fringes and spew hate at anyone trying to actually run the country. That is why whenever the Right side starts winning, the always malcontent on the Hard Right find some new issue to scream their bile about. Immigration is just their latest issue. The Hard Rightists, like the Hysteric Left, need some issue where they are in the minority so they can feel all virtuous about themselves while making absolutely sure no one will ask them to actually DO anything to move the country forward.

You need to study a little political party history. It has been the liberal right that has abandoned its' conservative base. Instead of following the principles of the republican party they have elected to follow the "good ol boy" system of pushing their heir apparents to the thrown.

Please give me three polls that show this. I have visited all the major polling websites, done a search on "immigration" and find absolutely no data to support your "super majority" claims. What I do have found is the same basic divide on this issue as on just about every other issue. The only "Super majority" I have found is the recognition that immigration is an issue. There is almost no support outside of the 44% Republican base for the sort of sweeping changes you are advocating. That is a minority viewpoint Wit, not a Super Majority". Link so you can read it yourself
http://www.pollingreport.com/immigration.htm
Which is the point I am making that you so object to. The anti-immigration crowd currently sounds
"hysteric and mentally unhinged to the average voter. "
For example, claiming "Super Majority" status for their extreme position on immigration and border security.
