MORE IMPORTANTLY, the attack on Ann Coulter on this Board was VICIOUS, REPREHENSIBLE AND DISGRACEFUL.
I read through 450 of the some 700+ posts relative to Ann Coulters article on the Roberts nomination. Although, like any one else, Ann deserves to have her views scrutinized and criticized on this Board, its unconscionable that so many have denigrated her personally.
It is an absolute disgrace that some posters have attacked her for her body shape; and, her marital status; and, her facial features; and, her purported drinking habits; and imputed uninformed pseudo- psychoanalysis in this vicious ad hominem attack. If ANYONE in the conservative movement didnt deserve such hypocritical treatment from her own, it is Ann Coulter.
Im relatively new to the Board, but I remember Ann and Drudge participating in a rally telecast on CSPAN when Free Republic was in its infancy. She was there to support this Board, and has continually been one of the staunchest supporters of this Board. I recall her saying that, when she traveled and was feeling low, she logged on to Free Republic for sustenance. I remember at the rally, when she spoke to Freepers, she said I love you guys.
Without argument, she has been on the front lines in the battle against liberalism. Unlike those who attack her personally today from the safety and anonymity of their keyboards, she places herself physically in harms way every time she spreads the conservative philosophy at a university. We all know she is vulnerable to personal attack, and we have seen punks try to silence her by confronting her on stage and throwing pies in her face. What we witness on this Board today is FAR WORSE than a cream pie; its a vicious slap in the face. Its an unmitigated abomination.
We all know that when the administration comes under assault, suddenly, the Board is overwhelmed with hatchet men. But the hatchet job done on Ann Coulter today was a Black Day for Free Republic. We attacked one of our most ardent supporters; we mugged the soul of the Board.
Those who engaged in this character assassination should be ashamed, but I know they are not. Ann Coulter is not, and should not be, above criticism as to her views- but these ad hominian attacks by keyboard assassins is dastardly and the pinnacle of ingratitude.
Ann fearlessly endures the attacks of liberals, and she does so in support of the causes that we hold dear. I dont always agree with her, but God, I admire her courage. I couldnt do what she does, and I am so much in her debt for doing for me that which I have no capacity to perform. God hope she has the good sense not to read the Board today- because Im certain that with all she has endured on our behalf, this had to be the greatest betrayal of all.
To those assassins involved, Et Tu, Freepers?
Picking Roberts is like playing Russian Roulette. We don't know what we're getting. With the stakes so high and the courts destroying our country, we can't afford to play games. We needed a nominee who doesnt require any guesswork, someone who has previously expressed his opinions, so we can rally deserved support around him.
The only reason Ann is being criticized on FR is because she is questioning the President's judgment. Some here believe we're supposed to "have faith" that Roberts is the right pick, even though no one really knows. That very notion proves Ann is correct. Bush should have picked someone who would have united us because we know what he stands for. Instead we're left with stunted enthusiasm as we debate whether he really was the best choice.
A stronger nominee would have given immediate dividends in the next elections. But now the big question mark over Roberts leads some of us to wonder whether the GOP really can deliver. We won't know for years to come if voting Republican in 2000 to 2004 gave us the Scalias and Thomases needed to reverse judicial activism.
Lukewarm just won't cut it anymore.
Ok, Now realize that Republicans and Conservitives alike are held to a higher standard then Democrats and Liberals. We must be critical or else we'll end up wishy-washy like the latter. Nuff said..
Thanks for your defense of Ann...She is always straightforward and courageous. And yes, I share her unease with this nomination. The stakes are just to high for uncertainty...But here we are (sigh).
I'm really glad I wasn't here for that.
That sickens me.
More and more trolls showing up and taking over the site, and nobody calls them out.
This never would happen otherwise - Conservatives use reason and discussion - not personal attacks.
Not hard to figure out which political affiliation and agenda the personal attackers fall in to.
Just wish more FReepers would figure it out.
Get over yourself. Nobody -- and I mean nobody -- gets a blank check on FR.
We're not liberals.
And she WAS and continues to be WRONG.
It is an absolute disgrace that some posters have attacked her for her body shape; and, her marital status; and, her facial features; and, her purported drinking habits; and imputed uninformed pseudo- psychoanalysis in this vicious ad hominem attack. If ANYONE in the conservative movement didnt deserve such hypocritical treatment from her own, it is Ann Coulter.I have felt obligated to come to the defense of Miss Coulter in this area as well. It should be beneath "our side", is grossly mirepresentational, lacks pertinence, and has no place in disagreement over opinion.
Simple explanation:
There is a very high percentage of Republican loyalists here. Republican does NOT mean automatic conservative, contrary to their thinking.
There is a very high percentage of Republican loyalists here who think they are conservative but are not.
There is a very high percentage of Republican loyalists who think they are conservative here and they also think President Bush is a conservative. President Bush proved long ago, early into his administration, that he is not a conservative (although he does fight the war on terror, he is a liberal in domestic agenda).
Since you read a good part of the Coulter/Roberts thread, you can also see that there are some very perceptive members here in the minority that have the ability to be very perceptive and rational. That makes FR a valuable forum and important for the conservative movement. This explains why Ann Coulter is praised (like others) normally, but the second they make astute and accurate comments that run contrary to the RNC loyalists, these same members turn on Ann (and the others--including FR members--in many similar instances).
Most of what is said on FR is unimportant because it comes form blind party loyalists. However, it is what is said by the minority here that makes FR a great forum. The minority here bring forth great source material and make the best posts that cause many in the Bush administration and in conservative media outlets take notice.
Ignore the majority--read what the minority have to say.
"BYE BYE!"
Dude, go back down to your basement, eat some cheetos and make out with your life-size Coulter cut-out. She's waaaaaiiting for you!
hear, hear. Whether she is "cigarettes and chardonnay" or "Bible study with the Baptists", she is one of ours and we ought to love, love, love her. After all, that isn't hard is it? There's a lot to love about Ann Coulter. And moreover we must remember the Maxim of Ronaldus, "Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow republican...." I use the term fellow here in the true sense of fellow-ship. The maxim need not, for example, apply to swenatah Mcwayne.
Anny, Baby, if you're logging in for sustenance, log away. We'll always roll out the red carpet for you, you silky brilliant thing, you.
Well Ann, I for one "love ya!" I really hope that you find this posting on this thread.
I love your rapier-like wit, and the way (a bit like South Park), you like to go right up to the line, then take a step back, and then launch yourself across the line, like the guy that shot himself out of a cannon across the US/Mexico border!
All I can say, and I know that I speak for at least 20 other people, is keep it up, keep your head held high, and know that you've got the support of a lot of people out there.
Sincerely,
Mark
