New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Friday that terrorists come "in all sizes and shapes and forms" and it wouldn't be fair for police to profile terrorism suspects on the basis of a Middle Eastern appearance.

It seems that the terrorists only trust their own. we should use that against them, not tie our hands behind our backs.

If they know we are profiling "their own", they may well have terrorists of "other kinds" they can bring into the mix -- but when they do, we can more easily send in spies to break them.

That was one of the few lessons I think we could take from this season's episodes of "24", that when the BIG PLOT comes we will most likely find out only if the terrorists are forced to rely on people who are less ideologically motivated, meaning those who we wouldn't catch through normal profiling.

Having said all that, the total number of terrorists is such a very small number that the "false positive" effect makes me wary of profiling used in "active" ways.
