Posted on 07/22/2005 12:07:54 PM PDT by Antioch
Soldiers from Massachusetts and Hawaii who work at the U.S. military detention facility at U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, gave visiting home-state senators a piece of their mind last week. Sens. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat, and Daniel K. Akaka, Hawaii Democrat, met with several soldiers during a visit led by Armed Services Committee Chairman Sen. John W. Warner, Virginia Republican. Pentagon officials said soldiers criticized the harsh comments made recently by Senate Democrats. Sen. Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, the Senate's No. 2 Democrat, last month invoked widespread military outrage when he compared Guantanamo to the prison labor systems used by communist tyrant Josef Stalin, Cambodia's Pol Pot and Adolf Hitler. "They got stiff reactions from those home-state soldiers," one official told us. "The troops down there expressed their disdain for that kind of commentary, especially comparisons to the gulag." A spokesman for Mr. Kennedy had no comment. A spokeswoman for Mr. Akaka confirmed that the senator met with soldiers from Hawaii but did not recall receiving any complaints during the meeting. Both senators made no mention of the incident in press statements after the visit. Mr. Kennedy, in his statement, said that he is "impressed with the courtesies and professionalism of the men and women in our armed forces."

hehe, gotta wonder whether these guys were rotated into Club Gitmo for this very reason.
With the rest of the major stories over the past week, I'm glad the Wash Times didn't let this fall thru the cracks and go unreported.
It's an embarassment to our nation when some of members of Congress and the Senate actually serve there.
Kennedy ranks right up there.
"Mr. Kennedy, in his statement, said ....."
"go to **bleeping** hell, you Nazi sympathizers."
Should have let Teddy swim home.
I hear he's deathly afraid of the water, even if it's only a few feet deep.
I'm astounded at how long Kennedy has been able to stay in office.
Admittedly, he gets tons of mileage from the family name and his two dead brothers.
But his antics (Chappaquiddick, etc) and bloviating speeches would have worn thin on the voters of most other states.
Kennedy must have one hell of a constituent services effort going out of his congressional offices for state residents to put up with him.
Anyone here have something to offer up as to how Kennedy has managed to stayb in office this damned long?
I do so hope our boys down there gave Fat Ted, and others Dim's an ass ripping in no uncertain terms. DurtBin is an unforgivable POS...
think this will show up anywhere on TV tonight???
Fat Teddy is appalling.
American Soldiers: You Mr Kennedy are a BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP!
What FAT TED HEARS! BLAH BLAH BLAH
What Fat TED thinks: When is happy our here! What did he say, do these peons know who i am?
I hate Ted Kennedy wish it was him and not Robert who bought it in 68.
I'm glad Kennedy is upset about a Cuban prison. Too bad it's not one of Castro's.
It's an Occam's Razor thing.
Simple answer is the right one.
The people of *assachusetts are damned commie idiots.
They elected Romney and Kerry too.
I believe the entire congressional delegation are socialists, most of them are openly members of the democrapping socialists of America, the order of the red rose.
All ten voted against extending the Patriot Act.
