BOMBAY (AFX) - An Indian court has jailed a man for plotting to crash passenger jets into the House of Commons and the Tower Bridge in London on Sept 11, 2001, Agence France-Presse reported.
The court here handed down a seven-year prison term to Mohammed Afroze, who had also confessed to plotting with a group of Al-Qaeda operatives to attack Melbourne's Rialto Towers and the Indian parliament in 2001.
Afroze told the police in Bombay after fleeing from Britain to India four years ago that he and seven Al-Qaeda terror cell operatives planned to hijack the passenger jets at Heathrow and fly them into the two London landmarks.
The suicide squads which included men from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan booked themselves on two Manchester-bound flights, but the group panicked and fled just before they were due to board.
Afroze was arrested at a city hotel here in Oct 2001 and charged under an anti-terror law.
Indian judge AP Bhangale charged Afroze with criminal conspiracy, forgery and for 'committing depredation on territories at peace with India,' court officials said.
The judge, however, acquitted Afroze's brother, Mohammad Farooq Abdul Razaq, because police failed to produce sufficient evidence for his prosecution, the officials said.
Razaq was charged with helping Afroze to travel abroad and learn to fly passenger planes, officials said.
But, But, But this was before we went into Iraq. How is that possible?
The guy is obviously innocent. The Jihadists are only targeting GB because of their attacks on innocent Muslim's in Iraq.
So much for the theory that the London Underground bombings were because of Iraq. London was a target before the Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The Indian govt. should release him NOW.....I heard the Dimocratic Party is looking for a vice-presidential candidate in 2008. /sarcasm
That's an interesting finding, isn't it?
When he gets out in seven years, we need to make sure an anti-terrorism hit squad is there to bust a cap in him. Maybe the fellows from London this morning. They seem to be efficient.
Why would we think that 7 years in an Indian prison would reform him?
7 years? Kids busted with a few pot seeds have gotten more!
I say give him life in a russian prison camp, rendering hog fat for the rest or his days.
Interesting ping...
The Indian Police will take care of the rest. The Bombay Police calls it Encounters

Seven Years? WTF?
Life imprisonment or death are the only justifiable sentences for plotting terror. Update your sentencing requirements, boys.
If a terrorist or a gangster enters an Indian jail, he will never get out. They have encounter specialists who are trained only to kill gangsters and terrorists with out any arrest warrants and the news never gets out.
