War waged over public broadcasting

July 21, 2005

BY ROBERT NOVAK SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST

Sen. Arlen Specter, a busy man with multiple duties, was understandably unprepared July 11 as he chaired a rare Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing about public television. When he asked whether there was an opening statement for him to read, the subcommittee staff director replied there was none but handed him questions. Therein lies a behind-the-scenes story about public air wars in Washington.

The hearing's purpose was to grill Kenneth Y. Tomlinson, Corporation for Public Broadcasting board chairman, about hiring two consultants in his campaign against liberal bias on the airwaves. Not only Specter's questions but the hearing itself was orchestrated by subcommittee staff director Bettilou Taylor, whose husband, Domenic Ruscio, is a longtime consultant hired by the Association of Public Television Stations

It's time for the Republican leadership to remove Old Arlen the RINO from his committee chair posts. Once again his has shown himself to be disloyal to Republican principles and either a shill or "useful idiot" of the Left. It would be well worth an email note to your Representatives, Senators and the Republican leadership recommending that they finally rein this RINO in before he can do any more damage to the country.

Yes we agree. We the voters here in PA wanted to finally be rid of Arlen in this past election. WIth the Pres and Santorum's support he was able to save his ass.

I believe his KIMO is adding to his problems. He should step down immediately and take care of himself. This would allow Rendell to appoint a Democrat in his place. Some say it wouldn't matter, given Arlen's voting record.

I think your correct in that he should give up his Chairs to lead the carious committees and turn them over to a more staunce Republican. It would make everyone feel more confident.

He will die sitting in his senate chair and no one will notice for a week.

He should step down immediately and take care of himself.

I agree! BUT, something happens to these people when they get to DC and take office -- it's called PA -- power addiction, and NOTHING will make them let go of that power, even a devastating illness like cancer.

PBS should be shut down.

The government has no business being in the broadcasting business.

This is why we as a people must organize under a National Group such as the Minuteman Org. or some other National Organization - to elect candidates that are strictly in favor of unpholding the US Constitution and are PRO AMERICAN. We can no longer afford to elect these same officials over and over again.

They have assumed, because of their longevity, that they have the right to negotiate our US Constitutional freedoms away. To enter into agreements with foreign governments such as the UN for a Global taxation for the failed Social experiments of western Europe. They no longer stand up and defend the constitutional rights of the US Citzenry in accordance with the US Constituion.

The Supremes have used European Legal Precedence to interpret US Laws, Strictly against the US Constitution. The Congress has turned a blind eye to these violations and allowed these decesions to stand. Why??

The only thing we can do is replace these so called representatives with people we know, from the rank and file, from th eunemployment lines even, who will exercise the Official offices in defense of the US Constitutional and bring the rest of these Traitors to the US Constitution to answer for their actions.
