In Baltimore, Maryland, the president spoke on spoke on homeland security and the Patriot Act, after his prime time address on television last night announcing Judge John Roberts as his first nominee to the United States Supreme Court.
He met with Judge Roberts this morning and also with the 2005 NCAA women's basketball champions, Baylor University's Lady Bears NCAA basketball team, at the White House.

QUOTES: "The Patriot Act is expected to expire, but the terrorist threats will not expire. I expect, and the American people expect, the United States Congress and the United States Senate to renew the Patriot Act, without weakening our ability to fight terror, and they need to get that bill to my desk soon."
"Judge Roberts is off to the Senate this morning to begin his consultations. I'm confident the senators will come to realize what I've come to realize: We're lucky to have a man of such wisdom and intellectual strength willing to serve our country."
This morning, with Judge Roberts

The brilliance of Bushs court choice
"Bush likes to pull surprises, but only on matters of timing. George Bush hides in plain sight, a tactic that works here, since everyone always assumes the game is all about misdirection. Bush said he wanted to choose justices in the Scalia-Thomas tradition. Why would anyone think that he wouldnt follow through on that promise?"... Impeccable credentials, and a nice guy
... abortion alone would not be nearly enough to derail the guy. His credentials are simply too good. Hes too well-liked around town, too well-regarded by expert practitioners in Supreme Court jurisprudence. Boies and Walter Dellinger, two of the best (Democratic) Supreme Court advocates around, sing Roberts praises. They have faith that he will listen to reason when presented with well-crafted arguments on the high court. ... Its not just the Harvard/Harvard credentials, but the skill he has shown in the 39 cases he presented to the court over his years as a lawyer with Hogan and Hartson here in Washington.
Hes well-liked personally and that matters here. He and his wife are members of a suburban Catholic parish known for its good educational programs and rock-steady values. His two kids are adopted. Washington sits on a substratum of Catholic conservatism that few people who arent from here understand. It goes back to Georgetown University and pre-D.C. Maryland history. ...

*THANKS for the DOSE, GRETCHEN!*
After breakfasting together this morning, the president sends his nominee to Capitol Hill
Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., far right, welcomes Judge John G. Roberts, second from right, during a visit to Capitol Hill. They are joined in the meeting by Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee at far left, and Senate Majority Leader Sen. Bill Frist, R-Tenn., second from left.
Woohoo. I'm in early!
Thanks for the dose. I think I like this Roberts.
Under 10?
Not to mention

Okay, how distracting would this be if you were the speaker, addressing the nation on prime time television? lol

Oh my gosh. Look at those kids! They are so young and cute. That boy reminds me of me with his inability to stand still. :)
How old is Roberts?
