That's right, in a figurative sense. Too bad that it seems to bother you so much that people like to use figures of speech, but until they pass a law to outlaw using figures of speech, I guess you're just going to have to continue getting all huffy and puffy whenever you hear somebody use a figure of speech. But then, that's your problem. You might want to consider counseling if it becomes too difficult for you to deal with.

People use the phrase "open borders" in a figurative sense. The fact that it seems to bother you so much means that you're the one with the problem. Once again, counseling is available. You might want to consider it.
