I'm sorry if this has already been discussed, but didn't Natalee's mom once say that prior to her going to Aruba that Natalee had had highlights put in her hair? If so, perhaps that could be another clue if the hairs show some sort of chemical treatment. Carolinamom I believe that there was some discussion on the last thread regarding this matter, however I don't recall Beth mentioning Natalee highlighting her hair, but thats not to say that Beth has not mentioned it.

Very very early on, Beth made a comment that Natalee was upset that her highlights were too light. It was with that mom shake of a head between "that girl" and "what a girl"

I remember reading it in one of the threads, that NH had her hair highlited before the trip and was not pleased with it. I think she thought it was too light...?
