How likely to be true are the rumors about Ginsburg and Stevens retiring due to health problems, do you think?Having no access to their health records, I have no clue. Neither does anyone else. That won't stop people from speculation, though.

True, true. I just think it's funny that O'Connor (and probably Rehnquist) held out until President Bush was RE-elected (not selected) by such a nice margin, and now the leftists have to decide if they can hold out for another THREE YEARS and MAYBE get a Dem back in the WH! I don't think Stevens can last that long.

It is not a rumor but a fact that Ginsburg is a cancer survivor (as is O'Connor), and is elderly to boot. It is not a rumor that Stevens is 85. Those facts are why I expect President Bush to appoint replacements for both of them. And THOSE appointments WILL change the nature of the Court for the next generation.

(Will President Bush appoint a Justice who obeys the Constitution? I give 85-15 odds on yes.)

Stevens is the oldest..and we often forget that for old people..when they start to decline..it happens very fast..Look, everyone is talking about whether Sheets runs again in 2006..Actuarially, at his age, it's even money that he's NOT alive in 16 months..
