We won the war. IMO

We prevented WW III, depleted the USSR- turning it into a shell, and gave the S. Vietnamese a chance to succeed.

Anybody who wears the uniform has my respect and gratitude.

Double that for an unpopular war.

"It actually took the NVA two more years to take over the South after we pulled out almost all of our people in 1973, mainly because the Dem controlled Congress cut off the funding to the South Vietnamese. The North broke the Paris peace accords."

Understand. Hope someone still not aware of what happened will see what you printed and realize, we did not lose the war. At least not from a military stand point. As other said, Washington lost the war. The Bean counter,his boss, the congress, royally screwed up and the leftist anti war commies and L/MSM made sure public opinion would demand a pull out. But why rehash stuff most of us already know.
Thanks for the further rectifying.
Gotta hit the sack, my eye balls are shot.

It is painful to read all the adulatory posts for this fool. He was a prig and a twit. I served under him in Vietnam. I hold him responsible for the deaths of thousands because of his bullheaded obstinancy -- he tried to fight WWII against the VC and NVA. He was pleased when the Kham Duc SF base was overrun in 1968 beacause this allowed him to finally kill off the SF, which was really our only chance of victory. He refused to allow support or reinforcement before the camp was overrun. Others must be out there who know the truth too. I can see his face now, in his starched fatigues and spit-shined boots, paying a visit to FSB Ross, looking with disdain at the unclean infantry returning from an op. I hope this man has only begun to roast in hell forever.

Amen to that. We salute all our men and women in uniform past, and current. They mostly all serve with honor.

Gotta get some shut eye. My eye balls are shot.

General Westmoreland was the only face I believed during that time. I will always honor him and the men he led.
May God give him rest.

He really screwed up in dealing with the Missile Crisis. Everyone lauds him for "preventing WW3" but at the cost of permanent appeasement of a podunk pipsqueak Communist country a mere 90 miles from our shores. We should have pulled an Iraq on them ages ago. By destroying the Monroe Doctrine, Kennedy set us back immeasurably.

Tell them what it was for.

Do you claim to speak for them?

Instead the nation went wobbly (just like you) and scared Washington into screwing up everything.

I think it's owed to Watergate (see results of '72 election; Tet was '68.)
------
This from a recent P.J.B. column:

"By 1973, all US troops were home, the POW's were headed for Clark Field, every provincial capital was in Saigon's hands and Richard Nixon was at 69%. And the Establishment was beside itself with hatred."

This is why Watergate happened. IMO

No and yes. Cowardly butt kissing politicians playing up to the turds that floated in the pacifists sewer lost the war for us.

About the same as today only a little worse because one whole party, the Democrats, has declared themselves as Cowardly anti-American Liberals.

IN TRIBUTE:

Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror,
victory however long and hard the road may be;
for without victory there is no survival."
- Winston [Leonard Spencer] Churchill (1874 - 1965)

"Never give in. Never, never, never, never! Never yield in any way great or small except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force and the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." Winston Churchill

God give us men. The time demands
Strong minds, great hearts, true faith, and willing hands;
Men whom the lust of office does not kill;
Men whom the spoils of office cannot buy;
Men who possess opinions and a will;
Men who have honor; men who will not lie;
Men who can stand before a demagogue
And dam his treacherous flatteries without winking;
Tall men, sun-crowned, who live above the fog
In public duty and in private thinking. -- Josiah Gilbert Holland. 1819-1881

It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it. -- General Douglas MacArthur
