... Whatever the reason, being a nerd, a geek, a dork -- whatever you want to call the tragically unhip -- is becoming a source of pride. ... And, increasingly, people are parading around in shirts that say "Dork Pride!" among other things. Such items have gotten so popular that CafePress.com, an online merchandiser, has created a special category for shirts and other items celebrating geeks, dorks and nerds. ... For now, though, he's going with it and has put a bumper sticker on his motorcycle that says "Talk Nerdy To Me" so he attracts the kind of women he's looking for -- "a librarian type girl," who likes to go to bookstores and art galleries and whose eyes don't glaze over when he starts talking about the finer points of "Babylon 5" or "Battlestar Galactica." ... "I see them as eccentrics or maybe smart, gentle people with a passion for something that may not be popular at the moment, like maybe computers, 'Star Wars,' physics," says Mai, a 28-year-old university employee who lives in Walnut, California. "Say, for instance, we're watching a dream movie with Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt and Topher Grace. I'd gush over Topher Grace," she adds, referring to an actor from "That '70s Show" who's known for his geek appeal.
To prove her point, Mai has an "I (Heart) Dorks" tank top, which she wears often.

I actually saw one of those guys filling up his bug at a gas-station the other day.
We exchanged the Secret Handshake and went our seperate ways.
And all this time I thought their only skill was giving twirlies...
So people were talking (circa 1999) about the "Revenge of the Nerds". But the frat boys are getting the last laugh as they offshore all the nerd programming/engineering jobs.
I got it!
(And I THINK my Kid is watching that right now! LOL!)
You've never lived in Utah, have you.

Those were the skills the football jocks learned.
I'll have you know our server room is very clean and well-lit. All the better to drool over the new DS-3-equipped 7650 Catalyst. Plus, the air conditioning in here rocks.
Mmmmm... Cisco~licious
That, and running around playing a game and comparing themselves to soliders on a battlefield...
In reality, America will need to produce people who are both "Jocks" and "Nerds".
I'm a nerd playing catchup to what the Jocks learned by 17.
Microsoft is the result of a series of accidents and blunders.
1. Xerox gave away GUI technology to Apple because it saw no value in it.
2. IBM, figuring the money was in the hardware, let Microsoft control the software part.
3 DEC cancelled its project to port VMS to the X86, choosing instead to port it to the dead-end Alpha. Bill Gates hired away the DEC designers who turned their code into Windows NT.
Nerds will never get that lucky again.
(Genuinely baffled Smiley.)
Nerds "Make fun of us today, work for us tomorrow."
Pedro Sanchez. His cousins are the guys with all the sweet hookups.
GOSH!
Nerd skills haven't got one damn thing to do with
1. Bouncing back from adversity
2. Finishing what you start
3. Teamwork
4. Negotiating skills
5. Making sound character judgements
6. Being lucky in love
These are the social skills that the frat boys and football jocks are more likely to acquire.
I don't mind saying myself; I'm a pretty cool geek....and I am coordinated as well....played a mean third base during my younger days....yet I'm must admit I'm a geek of the coolest degree......

Yup. From here on in, it's all down to skill, talent, intelligence, creativity and a willingness to take risks. Something Jocks will never know...
Wow. Never actually met a nerd, have ya...
I love it when you talk dirty. We're upping the core pipe to an OC-48 this fall. Woobadoobah!
