TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Police say a baby left in a hot car in Tulsa for more than two hours Friday afternoon has died. Police say the 9-week-old girl died about midnight Saturday night. The baby was left in the car after the family say they returned from running errands. Each parent thought the other had taken the baby out of the car.

A nine-week old girl.

This may sound cruel, but didn't the parents wonder why there wasn't any crying for more than two hours?

How can they not know? How is it possible to assume the other parent has taken care of the baby, newly born infant, and just not check on him/her for two hours. Before two hours, I would think at least one parent would have asked the other about the baby.

Geez.

Most people wouldn't leave a $5 bill on the passenger seat in a car for 5 minutes, but leave a small human being in one for hours.

Sickening.

Probably not as bad as the infant in those 2 long hours...

I'm sorry--and I do feel for this family--but I have a hard time believing that a missing 9 week old infant isn't discovered in much less than 2 hours.

Mr. basil and I had 5 kids in 9 years--and we managed to be sure that all of the kids were safely out of the car when we returned home from an errand. It was called a "head count"!

I'm going to be a father in six months...and this scares me. I have brain farts and lose things from time to time, but I don't think I could ever do this. I sure hope not, anyway.

Each parent thought the other had taken the baby out of the car

And it took two hours to realize that they were both wrong?

If memory serves me right, during the first year of our childrens's lives, the time between checks by one or the other parent was max 5 minutes. Which is not as excessive as it sounds, since, other than sleeping, they were always where one of us was.

Sounds like natural selection kicked in one generation too late.
I am just sorry this little girl had to be the one.

That's not being cruel at all!!

I would wager than a substantial number of these cases belong in Homicide division.

It's inconceivable to me, how somebody could leave an infant child in a car and not think about the child being there when they go inside and go about their business.

sadly this could happen...i have a 2 month old and if he falls asleep on the way home he can easily sleep in the carrier for 2 hours....so if one of us thought the other brought it him...well...its possible.

It won't happen, trust me. You will know where your child is at all times.

Unless the parents are mentally handicapped, I'm very skeptical of cases like this (see post above)..

There is NO excuse for babies/children to be left in cars! Period! How can they each assume the other had the baby? How could they both walk away from the car and not see a baby in one or the others arms? This is so cruel and sickening, they should be punished for this, not sympathized with!

Absurd..

It would take you more than 5 minutes to realize that nobody brought him in the house?

You don't deserve a child if it would take you more than 5 minutes to realize a 2 month old wasn't around.

Huh? How could you NOT know the baby hadn't been taken out of the car???

Congratulation on being a new Dad!

One word of advise.Always take the baby out of the car first, from the start, then you will never forget about him or her!

My husband and I practiced that from the beginning and never forgot our son or daughter in the car.

That was 17 years ago and things like that didn't happen to often back then.

I used to worry in the same way - I'm the kind of guy who will realize, as he walks through the train station parking lot to head home, that he's forgotten his car keys at work.

But kids are different - I know I think about my kids (i.e. dote on them mentally) so frequently that 15 minutes can't go by without my wanting to see or talk to them.

I can't imagine how people do this.

This happens too often. I can't imagine why one of them ever bothered to check on the baby, what were they doing for two hours that they didn't check on their child. Were they shopping together? if they were wouldn't you think that the baby is the first package you get out of the car?
