DETROIT -- A new poll of likely voters shows challenger Freman Hendrix leading incumbent Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick by 15 percentage points with the mayoral primary just over two weeks away. Kilpatrick has been plagued by the city's $300 million budget deficit, hundreds of layoffs, scrutiny over his use of a city credit card and the city's lease of a luxury SUV for his family. Asked whom they would vote for in a four-way race between Hendrix, Kilpatrick, City Councilwoman Sharon McPhail and state Sen. Hansen Clarke, 38 percent of those surveyed said Hendrix, 23 percent said Kilpatrick, 14 percent said McPhail and 8 percent said Clarke. Also leads two-way race If the primary resulted in a general election between Hendrix and Kilpatrick, 57 percent said they would vote for Hendrix; 27 percent would choose Kilpatrick. The survey of 400 likely voters was conducted for The Detroit News July 5-12 by Mitchell Research & Communications Inc. of East Lansing. It has a margin of error of 5 percentage points.

What difference does it make? Does anyone think that Detroit has any hope? I think we should turn it into one big prison like "Escape from New York".
They're allways after me lucky bling bling.
I hate Kwami!! He's even a bigger crook than Coleman Young was ... and that is saying a lot!
Don't know too much about Hendrix but from what I see, he's a pretty good choice.
The reformers who backed him in 01 are behind Hendrix, and the race vote is backing McPhail. City workers hate Kwame too.
There isn't much left to back Kwame.
Jimi's back? Oh man, can't wait to hear his latest rendition of The Star-spangled Banner!!
I just find these inner city voters interesting. It's another example like Philadelphia and DC. In DC you had Marion Barry smoking dope and running the city into the ground, yet he had incredible support from the black community. In Philadelphia John Street is corrupt and the city is falling apart. He was just re-elected. It's amazing how these people don't seem to care about their situation as long as the guy in charge has enough melanin.
Only 2 things come from Oklahoma .... (you know the rest)
But then I thought to myself, "Why are you defending Detroit, fool?". Unfortunately, your assessment is correct. Sad, what has happened to a once great city.
"I think we should turn it into one big prison like "Escape from New York"."
lol
Ya beat me by four seconds!! :)
He looks like he's planning Detroit's next riot (or championship celebration)!!!
Do you know if it will make a difference?
A dead heavy metal guitar superstar would still do a better job than Kwami Kilpartick.
LOL, now that is a good display of wit!
$300 MILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT?!?
WOWSERS!
I've always said: when analyzing a Detroit election, the key question shouldn't be "Who do the people want?", but rather should be "Which political machine controls the voting booths?"....
Yup and the more "in-yo-face" ghetto they are, the better!
Not only is Detroit's mayor like this but so is the entire government ... right down to the freakin' school board!
And they wonder why "White Filght" happened?
