Jane Harman Backtracks on Rove Allegation --Bailing
NewsMax ^ | 7/17/05 | Limbacher

In more evidence that the effort to blame Karl Rove for "outing an undercover CIA agent" was coming unraveled, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee retracted her claim on Sunday that she knew Rove obtained the agent's name from government sources.

Asked about a letter she sent the White House demanding that Rove's security clearance be suspended, Rep. Jane Harman first insisted she was certain that the top Bush's aide's source was someone in the administration.

"There's no other way that he would know [Plame's name]," Harman argued to "Fox News Sunday's" Brit Hume.

The California Democrat theorized that there was a "gossip pool in the White House emailing each other and chatting it up." She then charged that Rove was "marketing the facts" to reporters Matthew Cooper and Robert Novak.

Hume noted, however, that according to published reports on Friday, Rove "heard about the information from reporters" - and not Bush administration colleagues.

He challenged Harman: "How do you know that's not true?"

The top House Intelligence Committee Democrat began furiously backpedaling:

"Well, I can't know absolutely that it's not true," Harman confessed, before protesting, "But it's a circle - the reporters got it from somewhere."

"...it's a circle."
Of ourse, it is. Ultimately, it will be discovered that the original source is the DNC, perhaps Harman herself or the lunatics Dean and Lawrence O'Donnell in cahoots with Joe Wilson and the NYT in a sloppy conspiracy to frame Rove.

One tale being peddled by Democrats is that the Republicans are a threat to national security. I would assume that all of this is being coordinated by the DNC and the Democrat Senate leadership.

"Cooper is just testified and gave interview for time, has a wife who apparently works for Hilary Clinton." LTM

'Tis true, Matt Cooper is married to Mandy Grunwald, a Hillary Clinton Kool-AID drinker!...............

For some reason they think that Plame's name being "outed" by whoever, has placed America in danger because she was a CIA employee...

I know they don't believe that, but the think that Americans are that STUPID to buy what they are selling!

We didn't buy it last year, and we aren't buying it now. BUT they have their marching orders and talking points being given to them, IMHO, by Hillary, Bill and George Soros.

I know this may seem like "tinfoil hat" stuff ,but Miller wrote about WMD,she knew Plame personally and they both are lefties hoping to get "The White House" Add to that that Wilson also was a Kerry supporter anti- Bush unemployed Blowhard with an agenda to trash the "War" efforts for the DNC. Is it possible that Plame leaked "WMD" info to Miller and others that were writing against the War giving the Anti-War zealots selected secret info from her files. I believe this is all possible especially since Plame knew Miller personally and Miller knew about the "raid" on the radical muslims that this Federal Prosecutor was conducting and blew the raid by calling the suspected Terrorist's to ask for a comment on the raid. Maybe the pieces of the puzzle are begining to fit.

I pretty much missed the proposed bill in the Senate about all this. Would you please tell me the gist of what the Dimbulbs were proposing?

Thanks in advance.

Isn't it the NY Slimes that's insisting that Miller keep her trap shut? Would the Slimes go to bat so hard for Miller if they knew or suspected she was involved with a) WMD intel leaks and b) possibly tipping a raid on suspected terrorist funders??

I think you have a good theory, btw, just trying to see if it fits for the Slimes to go the distance with Miller about it.

The story is that these people are so rabid that they make up lies to get Bush, then, after saying the lies repeatedly, come to believe their own fabrications.

If you look at it closely, it begins to get a little sick and pathetic.

Schummer backtracked this morning, too. He said that Rove didn't break the law about covert agents.....but he certainly must have violated the agreement to keep "secret stuff a secret".....a paper everyone in the administration signs.

But Cooper had the "secret" already...and it was from another source as Cooper said this morning. Rove was not his source....and in hindsight, both Rove and Lieby?? were being setup.

What Cooper didn't know was that Rove had put out an email about the call, too.

A former CIA covert agent who supervised Mrs. Plame early in her career yesterday took issue with her identification as an "undercover agent," saying that she worked for more than five years at the agency's headquarters in Langley and that most of her neighbors and friends knew that she was a CIA employee.
"She made no bones about the fact that she was an agency employee and her husband was a diplomat," Fred Rustmann, a covert agent from 1966 to 1990, told The Washington Times.
"Her neighbors knew this, her friends knew this, his friends knew this. A lot of blame could be put on to central cover staff and the agency because they weren't minding the store here. ... The agency never changed her cover status."
Mr. Rustmann, who spent 20 of his 24 years in the agency under "nonofficial cover" -- also known as a NOC, the same status as the wife of Mr. Wilson -- also said that she worked under extremely light cover.
In addition, Mrs. Plame hadn't been out as an NOC since 1997, when she returned from her last assignment, married Mr. Wilson and had twins, USA Today reported yesterday.
The distinction matters because a law that forbids disclosing the name of undercover CIA operatives applies to agents that had been on overseas assignment "within the last five years."
"She was home for such a long time, she went to work every day at Langley, she was in an analytical type job, she was married to a high-profile diplomat with two kids," Mr. Rustmann said. "Most people who knew Valerie and her husband, I think, would have thought that she was an overt CIA employee."
Asked whether his wife had been compromised before the press leak, Mr. Wilson said, "I have no idea," though he said that her work has had to change since the leaks

Hillary.......No wonder Miller chose jail...It was that or a Foster moment.

It's also why boot licker Schummer is being so loud!! Her wish is his command!!!I don't think he said boo about it before the worm started to turn and head back to "Nice Mr. Wilson's" front door.

Don't forget....Wilson was on the Kerry campaign. He would surely wind up on the Hillary campaign.

Everything is starting to make sense....Would Rove be a part of the next Republican administration?? Is the end game...we never want Rove to have access to the White House again.

Think Hillary and the FBI files, too.
