In more evidence that the effort to blame Karl Rove for "outing an undercover CIA agent" was coming unraveled, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee retracted her claim on Sunday that she knew Rove obtained the agent's name from government sources.
Asked about a letter she sent the White House demanding that Rove's security clearance be suspended, Rep. Jane Harman first insisted she was certain that the top Bush's aide's source was someone in the administration.
"There's no other way that he would know [Plame's name]," Harman argued to "Fox News Sunday's" Brit Hume.
The California Democrat theorized that there was a "gossip pool in the White House emailing each other and chatting it up." She then charged that Rove was "marketing the facts" to reporters Matthew Cooper and Robert Novak.
Hume noted, however, that according to published reports on Friday, Rove "heard about the information from reporters" - and not Bush administration colleagues.
He challenged Harman: "How do you know that's not true?"
The top House Intelligence Committee Democrat began furiously backpedaling:
"Well, I can't know absolutely that it's not true," Harman confessed, before protesting, "But it's a circle - the reporters got it from somewhere."
Someone on FR said Plame knew Miller herself -- Miller seems to have written about WMD, and Plame is allegedly a WMD expert.
(laugh)
Exactly. However, something else is going on here and not just about outing CIA agents.
The question we should all be asking is why is Judith Miller sitting in jail for a source if Plame was not covert? Who is Miller's source?
According to UNNAMED CIA sources a referral was given because "If she was not undercover, we would have no reason to file a criminal referral,"...
Now there is only one thing you can conclude from that statement. Whether it is true or not, I guess, remains to be seen.
Ask Senators Schumer and Kennedy ...
October 15, 2003
John Dion, Chief, Counter-Espionage Section
Criminal Division
U.S. Department of Justice
Washington, D.C. 20530Dear Mr. Dion,
We write to express our concerns regarding apparent delays in the White House's production of evidence to the Department of Justice in connection with the criminal prove into the disclosure of a covert CIA operative's identity.
There have been three different public reports as to the deadline you set for the responses by White House staff to your request for evidence. First, on Friday, October 3, "an official familiar with" Justice's letter to the White House stated the deadline for production of evidence was Friday, October 10. Then, the White House spokesman, Scott McClellan, said at a briefing on Tuesday, October 7, that it would take two weeks for the White House to produce evidence to DOJ. Finally, an October 8 report in the Washington Post indicated that the deadline is October 17, with "intermediate deadlines" in the interim.
Given the President's commitment to total cooperation with this investigation, any delay in disclosing evidence to the Department of Justice is difficult to understand. A serious national security breach appears to have been committed, reports have indicated that someone (or some people) within the White House is responsible, yet this investigation is moving at a snail's pace. We hope you can understand why we are concerned.
Until the Attorney General recuses himself from this investigation and a special prosecutor is appointed, all reports of apparent delays and unusual beneficial treatment of the White House will be looked upon by the public with great skepticism. The conflicts of interest run too deep for there to be public confidence in the integrity of this investigation, especially when it appears a serious national security breach is being treated with kid gloves.
...
We look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible regarding these important questions.
Sincerely
Charles E. Schumer
United States Senator
Edward M. Kennedy

I know the interview is there at time.com, but I'm not subscribing to read it. Has anyone read it?
The California Democrat theorized that there was a "gossip pool in the White House emailing each other and chatting it up."
Because THAT is the democrat model!
It was posted here on FR, I have been asking for a second source.
This matter should be very easy to confirm
ANYBODY?
I suppose you have a point, but it doesn't seem to me that President Bush has been giving this "issue" all that much thought. The dems have been trying stuff like this ever since President Bush got elected. He's used to it by now.
As for those who will conclude that President Bush is dishonest and won't bother to investigate further, that's one good reason to have this discussed on sites like FR, and for the issue to be exposed for the BS that it is. I see it as time and energy well-spent.
I also think people have formed their opinions already on President Bush, good or bad.
Sources Judith Miller is protecting by going to jail
Apparently, Judith Miller went to jail to protect: (take your choice)
1. Karl Rove
2. Dick Cheney
3. Colin Powell
4. Haliburton
5. Tom Delay
6. GW
7. Laura Bush and her twin daughters
8. Bush's Doggie
9. _____________ (Fill in the blank with any Republican!)
10. All of the above
Yes, Joe Wilson and his "double super secret spy" wife are where everyone got it and other "reporters" gossiping about it. DUH!
Anyone could have found out who Valerie Plame was by GOOGLING HER NAME...
http://www.newsmeat.com/washington_political_donations/Valerie_Plame.php
Either Valerie or her idiot husband provided this information with their political contributions.
Cooper, who has worked for all three newsweeklies, is a soft-spoken politics junkie and a dead-on impressionist who has worked the comedy-club circuit. He is married to Democratic consultant Mandy Grunwald, whose father, former Time Inc. boss Henry Grunwald, died in February.Washington Post - Howard Kurtz - Thursday, July 7, 2005; A12
Cooper's recent story is posted elsewhere on FR. As for Grunwald's connection with Clinton, there was indisputably a connection in the past, as Grunwald was a media advisor, and has been reported to be a friend of Mrs. Clinton.
Is it too soon to start printing up , "ROVE-RUMSFELD '08!" bumper stickers?
I'm series!
Isn't Mandy hillary's Chief of Staff?

I believe the classification used to be a circle jerk. Ms Hartman and her dims are pro's at it.
Turn it around and ask why the liberals cannot understand it?
"Yeah, it's a circle and he suddenly found himself the pivot man ... not a good place to be!"
Jane is the towel girl at an 8-man circle jerk!
