Fiery Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean promised $1 million in campaign funds to state party candidates during a Denver fundraiser Thursday, saying recent takeovers of the state House and Senate showed that Colorado was primed for further Democrat victories. Speaking to a group of about 200 supporters inside a ballroom at the Oxford Hotel downtown, the former presidential candidate told the crowd that Democrats "need to make it clear to people that we're ready to fight."
Dean also took swings at immigration policies of Republican congressmen Bob Beauprez and Tom Tancredo, and directed a slap at Colorado Springs-based Focus on the Family, saying that no party has the corner on morality in the United States.
Dean whipped the crowd up as he recounted Colorado's political shift last election. The $1 million pledge, he said, would be doled out over four years. State Democratic leaders said Thursday that they already are hiring staff to spread their message across Colorado.
"We're gonna turn Colorado from purple to blue," Dean said amid cheers and applause at the $100-per-person event. "You turned it from red to purple all by yourself."
The former Vermont governor said his party would "beat Republicans by having a positive message" in both Colorado and nationwide, though its focus on equal rights for gays, universal health care and working wages for families who are struggling to make ends meet.
"Focus on the Family?" Dean asked. "If you want to focus on the family, focus on minimum wage. If you want to focus on the family, focus on smaller class size."
Colorado ain't purple. This past election was just a result of poor organization of the state GOP.
Plus, I have a feeling that Colorado dems are probably more conservative than a Massachusetts Republican would be...
Insulting evangelicals again, Deenieweenie? Gonna raise that million from those 200 donors, eh? Waddanidjit.
"...saying that no party has the corner on morality in the United States."
Ah ha! So Dean is now flip-flopping, huh? He's been claiming moral superiority for years.
Sheesh, I've spoken to more people than that.
When Howard Dean speaks, hardly anybody listens.
I'm ever again reminded of the Monty Python Knight with no arms and legs talking trash like the 'WienieMan Dean'.
Is it my imagination, or does Dean tell dems to get ready for a fight about twice a week?
"Oooh, we're getting ready to fight. Oooh, watch out. When we start fighting they'll be sorry. Just wait. We'll start fighting and clobber those old Republicans. Just you wait. We're going to start fighting real soon now. Then you'll see something. We're going to fight. Oh, yes."
Gotta love the Deanster.
I was afraid he'd peak too early and get canned too far ahead of the '08 elections. Fortunately, it looks like the tin-eared Democrats are clueless enough to leave him where he can do the most good for the Republicans.
Black Knight: Come on then.
Arthur: What?
Black Knight: Have at you!
Arthur: You are indeed brave, Sir Knight, but the fight is mine.
Black Knight: Oh, had enough, eh?
Arthur: Look, you stupid bastard, you've got no arms left.
Black Knight: Yes I have.
Arthur: Look!
Black Knight: Just a flesh wound.
Arthur: Look, stop that.
Black Knight: Chicken! Chicken!
Arthur: Look, I'll have your leg. Right!
Yeah, the Dims know how to give us smaller classes, make it cheap, easy and legal to murder a lot of babies.
This man Dean is a dangerous fool. He sounds just like many of his Democrapic demagogue predecessors who got their kicks from whipping up people from Boss Tweed to Huey Long to VI Lenin.
It must be DeanieWeenie at a $100 a plate (ROTFLMAO) dinner!
It's a Dem thing. For people who claim to want to "give peace a chance," they sure do seem to want to do a lot of fighting.
I thought it was particularly interesting during the 2000 elections how Gore, even coming after 8 years of Democratic incumbency, somehow was always complaining and promising to fight.
They remind me of the Richard Pryor routine about the nice guy who gets drunk every Saturday and starts a fight, even though he always gets his butt kicked.
It's just what they do.
Hey..Deanie weenie.....ya don't mess with Texas
especially a wimp from Vermont....His claim to
fame went down in Iowa..how the hell can he take
on anybody from Texas..much less.....Big George.
Jake..and don't you forget it.
Dean surfaces to leave DNC headquarters.
I figure he's safe in his post until Hillary decides to put her guy/gal there.....sometime around 12/06.
"Fiery Howard Dean"
"Dean took swings"
"directed a slap"
"Dean whipped"
Dean did everything but send a message of any kind....
They've got to get together on strategy! Just caught John Gibson -- in his segment on Rove, he had to play the Dem to Kay Bailey Hutchison. The Dems on Capitol Hill are refusing to come on his show until Rove is OUT!
I liked his show even better than usual -- maybe someone should suggest that tactic to Dean so the Dems can act as one!
