Car with Confederate flag kicked, stoned in Rochester

ROCHESTER, Minn. -— Three men face charges after being accused of damaging a car that displayed the Confederate flag in Rochester.

Police said a woman approached two people in a parked car, upset over the flag. The people sitting in the car told police the woman threatened to "get her boys to take care of it.''

IIRC, we hail from the same state. I have relatives who were on both sides...hell, for that matter, I have one relative who was on 'both sides'. Didn't ever pay much attn to the on-going, never-ending war until I moved up nort' & got a close-up. It be ugly.

I recall years ago when I was in the army, we had an officer in our unit who was very proud of his Confederate heritage. I, as a proud son of the South, used to have long talks with him about the Civil War. One day he and I were talking when another officer approached. This particular officer happened to be of the Northern persuasion. Both officers were very good friends with each other. When the Northern-born officer heard us discussing our ancestors who had worn gray, he made a crack about the Southern-born officer's ancestor being on the losing side. I saw the Southern-born officer's eyes flash momentarily, and instinctively stepped back to be out of the line of fire and fists. Nothing happened, but I have often wondered if their friendship was ever the same.

You remember that Ken Burns started off with all those shots of poor slaves....had quite a few in there. The very next picture was of Ft. Sumter being bombarded. What a fitting effect....slaves used as a segue into war. Gives it a nice rationalization.....very smooth of Mr. Burns, don't you think?

Why Doris, lying becomes you. As much as I realize that all y'all hate to be reminded that single most important reason for the southern rebellion was defense of slavery, your deliberate lying about the Burns documentary is not at all justified. There was a considerable amount of film between the shots of slaves and of Sumter. John Brown, the Lincoln election, Kansas, secession, all the rest. You must have gotten your hands on the Crown Books edited version.
