One of the London bombers visited the Houses of Parliament as a guest of an MP, the British Labour Party confirmed tonight.
Mohammad Sidique Khan visited parliament in July 2004 in his capacity as a learning mentor at Hillside Primary School in Leeds.
The bomber, who was responsible for the Edgware Road blast, met Labour MP Jon Trickett. Mr Trickett, whose wife Sarah is headteacher at Hillside, spoke today of his shock.
He said: I was shocked to learn that someone who had grown up in the area of Beeston where I lived and which I represented on Leeds City Council for 12 years should turn out to be one of the London bombers.
It was also confirmed that Khan visited Mr Trickett and his wife at their home.
In July last year, the MPs wife took a number of her schoolchildren on a trip to London and Khan accompanied the party as a member of school staff.
The school group visited a number of attractions including the London Eye and St Jamess Park.
During the visit, Leeds Central MP Hilary Benn joined the group in Portcullis House to talk about his role as their local MP and answered the childrens questions.
They then met Mr Trickett who accompanied the group on the rest of their visit around the Palace of Westminster.
As soon as Mr Trickett realised this man was one of the London bombers he informed the Chief Superintendent in charge of Commons security, the British Labour Party said.
big oopsie!!!
What excellent cover for a reconnaissance of potential bombing sites. What fools these Labour MP's are. What a farce.
"Keepin' your enemies close" ain't such a good idea anymore...when your enemy's a suicide bomber.
I guess they must have made a big impression on him, given that he then blew himself and other British citizens to bits for the glory of Allah.
(((((PING))))
"I'm shocked; shocked, I tell you!"
What this shows is that this bomber wasn't interviewed and debriefed by his handlers. Had Al Qaeda had effective debriefing skills among their suicide recruiters, they would have known that they could have taken out 20 to 30 Members of Parliament with this one bomber's civilian access.
It's not that simple - there are extensive scanners at the entrance to Parliament. Your bags are put through an x-ray machine too.
This applies to employees as well as visitors.
Regards, Ivan
Our congressmen and state legislators, Democrat or Republican, are no wiser than the Brits. We're getting ours next and the origins of the evil will be just as banal.
One of the London bombers...
NO NO NO FOR THE LAST TIME THEY'RE TERRORISTS!
Very true, but that bomber had been in an MP's *home*, hardly a place expected to have scanners. Yes, Parliament's defenses might have been successful at Parliament (or not, but one at least hopes yes), but MP's do socialize outside of Westminster's security perimeter.
This bomber had civilian access to *both* (Parliament and an MP's home). His contacts and accessability were fortunately not exploited...and this is due, in my opinion, to Al Qaeda's haphazard operating style.
good point!!
It's fortunate that the Islamo-Fascists are not always on the ball, though they are able to do plenty of carnage in their own ways. Interesting that this guy didn't suggest it himself, for I doubt any potential suicide/homicide depraved bomber would have scruples about who he blows up.
And if I understand correctly, there are certainly classes of weapons and explosives which cannot be detected by detectors deployed at parliamentary and government buildings. They are using the detection technology at airports 10 years ago because the state-of-the-art detection devices at airports are considered too time-consuming with no tangible benefits.
If al-Qaeda decides to deploy plastic explosives as suicide bombing materials, everything is doomed.
ALLAHU AKBAR! = HEIL HITLER!
"One of the London bombers...

I don't really understand this obsession. No-one is saying they aren't terrorists. 'Bombing' is one of the methods that a terrorist may employ.
