Interesting analysis. I would think a conservative projection might be that:

1. The GOP holds Tn. I actually think it will be a landslide against Ford who is not nearly as "center-right" as this analysis claims.

2. The GOP beats one of the Nelsons.

3. Santorum loses.

4. The GOP wins in Washington and Minnesota.

Net pick up two seats.

Barring some thing HUGH pubbies should keep control.

One who is going down is Santorum. He has been screwing with the conservative base here. We could have made great inroads into this corrupt, blue state but he had to get all wishy-washy.

PA is going to be one of the last stands of the rat/socialist party, helped along of course by those farking RINO's who insist conservatives tow the pubbie line and vote for anyone with an "R" after the name no matter what.

----Rhode Island There are a great many things that could go wrong for Republicans here.----

What is that, a joke? The biggest thing that can go wrong for Republicans in Rhode Island is Chafee WINNING re-election. That's one Senate seat I hope the Democrats pick up.

Otherwise, the Prowler has it exactly right. The map just ain't on the Dems' side next year.

Sad to say, but the first part of the article is as correct as the final lines. In fact, our economic agenda is becoming a pie in the sky, and the next months will be absorbed in a fight concerning the Supreme Court. I can't be optimistic.

I hope Stevens will retire, after a new Republican majority.

Ford is a right-of-center Democrat

Right of center-center, or right of Democrat-center aka left fringe?

I agree with you except I'm not optimistic about Chafee - I think he either pulls a Jeffords or gets beat.

Maybe not next year, but come 2008, I wouldn't be one bit surprised if Hillary becomes our next President. The Dims are far from dead, President Bush is no conservative, & he refuses to concern himself @ all w/ protecting our borders & rolling back the ever-increasing size of the federal government: no, he in fact is guilty of massively increasing its size & intrusion into our lives (w/ lots of help from a so-called Republican Congress, of course).

And just how many RED states, dear, is HITLERY going to win in '08? ;^)

It isn't even certain, that she'll run in the Dem primary; for crying out loud.

And castigating President Bush, is a losing cause. HE WON'T RUNNING IN '08!

For the Rats, I'd prefer Hitlery (NY) running for President, rather than Richardson (NM). He is a cheater, and he took away Republican votes both in 2000 and in 2004 Presidential Elections. I hate him more than Hitlery! The worst thing, however, would be a ticket of these two.

We can only pray for a good REPUBLICAN (I mean truly conservative!) ticket. What about Missouri Governor?

As one of FR's few unzotted Democrats, I guess I'll weigh in.

I predicted a Bill and Hill ticket a few months ago and I'm sticking with that prediction. Hillary won't win the general election if she's at the top of the ticket and I think that's probably recognized within the Democratic leadership. But remember; presidential candidates are selected via primary. It's entirely possible that the Democratic rank and file will vote for Hillary anyway.

Interestingly, I think that the key election issue for 2006 is going to end up being President Bush's selection for the Supreme Court. If he picks someone who is not conservative, or someone who is identified as pro-abortion, then all this election calculus ends up in the trash can. Because I think a significant number of Republicans, particularly religious conservatives, will choose to spend election day at home. And then the Democrats win by default.

18 months is a long time. It assumes the Democrats have developed a positive agenda to win the mid-term elections. If they haven't, I wouldn't be surprised if 06 turned out to be a retread of 02.

(the fourth is Vermont, which is not winnable for the Republicans).

Wrong. Jumpin' Jim Jeffords was elected in 2000 as A REPUBLICAN! He's not running for re-election, and the state is winnable if current Republican Governor, Jim Douglas, a Republican, decides to run. Currently, he has a 68% approval rating, and only 28% disapproval. He'd be tough to beat!

Fix voter fraud in Philly and a Democrat will never win the state again. Same with Milwaukee.

2. The GOP beats one of the Nelsons.

Our Nelson (Bill, Florida) is toast. This guy is barely coherent most of the time. You see him on TV walking around in a liberal haze reciting the latest talking points without any clue as to what they mean.

The cheese has fallen off this guy's cracker and it may be a year or so before he even catches on.

Old southern line: This guy is so ignorant that not only does he not know anything...he doesn't even suspect anything.

Couple that with the fact that this state is rapidly turning Republican. When you start with the fact that most Florida Democrats were conservative Democrats, the current trend makes good sense.
