Yeah, I used to hope he'd change, but he's heading into 40 and I doubt there's any hope for him. At least my youngest son voted Republican last fall.
I just did a Google news search and this statement by Luskin (Rove's lawyer) was made last night before the Grand Jury testimony of Matthew Cooper.
He was making the point that as long as Cooper was truthful, then Rove has nothing to worry about. But since Cooper is a liberal, he can't be counted on to be truthful. Luckily, he wrote the email and it is pretty clear.

I agree. I am probably a nice guy. But when it comes to this kind of mud fight....nice don't cut it. I understand your thinking and at other times that tactic may be needed and used. Now is not that time.
