WASHINGTON -- Former Ambassador Joseph Wilson called on President Bush Thursday to fire deputy chief of staff Karl Rove, saying Bush's top-level aide engaged in an "abuse of power" by discussing Wilson's wife's job with a reporter.
Wilson decried what he called a White House "stonewall" in the wake of revelations that Rove, a longtime Bush confidant, was involved in the leak to the news media that Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, was a CIA officer.
Bush said Wednesday that he would not comment on discussions that blew her cover because it is the subject of an ongoing investigation by special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald. White House press secretary Scott McClellan said, however, the president still has confidence in Rove.
Wilson, in an interview broadcast Thursday on NBC's "Today" show, said he thinks the White House's posture in this controversy represents a continuing "cover-up of the web of lies that underpin the justification for going to war in Iraq."
Wilson was asked about statements by Rove's defenders noting that an e-mail describing Rove's conversation with Time reporter Matthew Cooper indicated that Rove did not specifically mention Valerie Plame by name.
"My wife's name is Mrs. Joseph Wilson," he replied. "It is Mrs. Valerie Wilson. He named her. He identified her," Wilson said. "So that argument doesn't stand the smell test ... What I do know is that Mr. Rove is talking to the press and he is saying things like my wife is fair game. That's an outrage. That's an abuse of power."

What's the matter, did you hear Joe? He said the Vice President sent him! We all know Cheney wants the big seat, maybe he thought Wilson could help him get it!
Just goes to show you why the President has been shaking up the CIA management.
It's time for Bush to pardon Rove immediately and put an end to this nonsense.
So, when is the NOW gang going to condemn Joe Wilson for his patriarchal attitude toward women? He acts like he OWNED her?
And when is someone in the MSM going to connect the dots and realise the Joe Wilson is the one who outed his wife, first by going public about a task that she recommended him for, and then by confirming the unconfirmed press reports about her employment with the CIA?
He's a democrat, so he only had to slink away for long enough to make people forget, then he gets to come back and pretend it never happened.
If Wilson was telling the truth, as he claims (and he is not), Kerry would never have cut him out of his campaign.
You know, it is funny -- did more people have to quit the Kerry campaign because of scandal than have had to quit the Bush administration?
For a guy who spent the days sitting by the pool, sipping green tea and letting our government pay his travel expenses, he has a lot of nerve. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy is the real leaker, trying to rid himself of the nagging wife.
Her name is Valerie Plame Wilson as she herself notes it in an on-line post on some kind of genealogy web site. Note that the page where she posted was last updated on May 29, 2000 before this phony Plame story hit the liberal press. Go to this link and scroll down to Plame:

Good points Charles! Karl Rove should get a raise with his medal! Good Morning evertone!
LOL. Yeh, that's the ticket --- Pardon Rove!!
I'm wondering if she took an alias and went with him on his little vacation (at government expense of course)....Anyone have anyway to check.
This guys is an outright liar. He should be jailed for misuse of public funds and for divulging sensitive CIA material.
That's going to upset some of the feminists! ;^)
Great find!!
And notice that the email account that Valerie Plame Wilson lists
[jvwilsoniv@XXXXXX]
has her husband's name...Joseph Wilson IV
He's justifiably confident that certain uncomfortable questions won't be asked; questions like this:
"Mr. Wilson, in your editorial you implied that VP Cheney was the impetus for your Niger trip, and you later denied that your wife had anything to do with your selection. Now that the Senate Intelligence Committee has established that she was instrumental in getting you this assignment, including publishing her memo recommending you, shouldn't you retract your initial denial?"
Or this:
"Why do you think you were not asked to sign a confidentiality agreement, which would be SOP for a mission like this?"
Or this:
"If you were concerned about blowing your wife's cover, wasn't it a big risk to take an assignment like this and then write a column in the NYT about it?"
MSM? I don't think so.
I really wonder why she posted on that page, whether she was really looking for family history. If she's a family history buff, this seems to be the only effort on her behalf I've been able to turn up. I suspect the real reason for this post was to provide someone information on how to contact her husband--so this possibly had some kind of clandestine purpose.
Did he wag his finger when he said that?
Wilson's "cover" is blown. By Joe Wilson. He's desperate. Ergo, the "abuse of Power" pavlovian charge for his followers...
A person on Fox just said that it is not a crime to say someone, such as Porter Goss or Valerie Plame or Joe Wilson's wife, works for the CIA. If you identify that the person has a covert role that's a different story.
He said that Joe wilson may have been the first person to actually out his wife! (If she in fact did have a covert role.)
huh? There's nothing to "pardon" Rove for.
Here is the video of Wilson this morning
