My husband and I built our home ourselves. The inspector told us that if our roof goes everyone in trouble. We kind of got carried away with hurricane straps:')
You could dig one but it would be expensive or labor intensive. In the old days you could drill and blast but those days are mostly gone now.

Ouch. My wife did this last July. Jumped out of bed to answer the phone (wrong number) and her ankle just flopped over. Break.
Didn't realize what happened when she fell so she stood up. No support so the ankle flopped the other way. Break.
Had surgery two days later for a plate and 8 screws. Even the doctor was impressed with the job she did on it.
She never got a cast either and was driving again about 7 weeks after it happened. But she was in some serious pain there for awhile.
Here's hoping Emily gives Texas some rain!
Don't laugh, ok but I was thinking the other day that when we build the cabin we could have an outerwall stroage room that I could bring the horses in to:') I haven't been brave enough to share this idea with hubby yet.

Oh my - bless your dear wife, she obviously went through a horrific time.
The orthopod said nothing about screws, just the plate - but he was basing his diagnosis on the Xrays from last Friday night when it happened, I've fallen more than once since then because I can't get the hang of the crutches and who knows how much more damage I've done. He told me he would be putting a cast on it after the stitches come out, in about 3 weeks.
We live out in the boonies, so not being able to drive is a MAJOR problem for me.
Definitely looking for Emily to give Texas much needed rain - but none of the other stuff associated with these danged storms.
You need to make some new friends......

Not knowing your exact injury I may be completely off but the screws are what hold my wife's plate to the leg bone. Even gave her a letter with a pic of the xray of the area for snoopy TSArs :-)
She also had an aircast, not a hard cast. Easier to deal with and to clean the leg - especially in the summer.
Make sure you get a prescription for a wheelchair. Stay off the leg with those darn crutches.
Good luck! You seem to be doing quite well. My wife was literally drugged-up the day and a half before her surgery. She couldn't stay awake longer than an hour without crying.

That has shifted north from previous tracks...
She's getting very close to where Dennis started out. The ridge is forecast to be stronger this go around, so we shall see just how far north she can get. I still think she hits the Yucatan at some point, but we will have to wait and see if that will be the end of her.. or if she can manage to scoot between the Yucatan and Cuba. Storms that start at this latitude generally have a hard time coming north, but Dennis managed to, even without a strong trough. The real question will be the ridge currently centered off the TX coast. If that stays there, the chances of this storm hitting the U.S. are slim.
Then I guess I will be having screws put in as well...because come to think of it, something has to hold the plate to the bone...what was I thinking?
LOL on the cleaning the leg.......one of the instructions on the pre-op instruction paper (no eating/drinking after midnight, etc) is to take a warm soapy shower and thoroughly clean the surgical area........I sure as heck wish I had read that while I was still in the doctor's office.
I understand your point about the wheelchair, but considering it won't do me a bit of good in the house I don't really see the point in one. In the house I use my desk chair as much as possible, but even it doesn't fit through many door opennings, there is no way a wheelchair could.
They gave me vicodin in the ER, 500mg every 4 hours, which I did on Saturday. I had only taken 2 all day yesterday until I lost my balance last night and so took a third. I'm about to take my 4th since 6 this morning. They don't really put me to sleep - but they sure as heck make me space cadet of the year!!!!!
