Looks to me like it's going to plow into the Yucatan and then stagger into Mexico where it will break up over the mountains. Hopefully, there will be a big plume to the north that will dump rain on Texas.

A good call, I think. Wonder if she'll hit the Texas coast after? I'm just thinking my lucky stars that she's not heading for So FL for a change.

That's a good possibility that it just plows into Mexico, but thing is when it's in the Western GOM you're looking at a 7 day forecast; any sort of trough or weakness in the high over the US that occurs then, is a feature over Siberia now.

Did you break your ankle? And, is your give a damn still busted? Yes. And, yes.

I've been thinking about building a hurricane category 5 safe room all day.
I thought about starting a thread on FR on the subject, what do you think? Think I should? I'm tired of leaving home.

My prediction is it will hit Galveston and move just east of Houston.

I think it would be a good thread. If you could ping me to it, I'd be obliged. I've thought the same thing for awhile. It could be potentially expensive, but also save some gray hairs.

I wouldn't mind a small underground shelter but then if it floods.....
To: Gabz
Well, I gather your sewing machine is the culprit? Hope you aren't in too much pain. OTOH, the ankle will now tell you when a hurricane is approaching.

Hopefully, you will have several weeks to come up with a good architectural plan, find materials, and build your safe room.

Who knows what will happen, but it looks tonight as if Emilyhwill either shoot the Yucatan Channel or cross Mexico somewhere near Cozumel.
Either way it could re-emerge in the western Gulf and I have no idea what the steering patterns then might be. Anywhere from Mexico to Lousiana. We'll know far better in three or four days.

I understand that there is terrific current in the Yucatan Channel, makes sense that when tide moves through such a constricted area there would be rips and stuff. Lots of drugs went through there in times gone by, still do, I suppose.

So this is finally a Texas hurricane? :) What everyone in Texas wants is to be on the outer fringes of a hurricane SOMEWHERE. We are in a pretty significant drought so we're all wishing for some sort of a tropical storm to bring relief and not bring destruction.
That's a tricky thing to accomplish with a hurricane, althought it's been done.
