Republicans Outside White House Are Talking
LA Times ^ | July 13, 2005 | Edwin Chen and Warren Vieth

Posted on 07/13/2005 6:54:42 PM PDT by Crackingham

The White House won't talk about Karl Rove. But as the furor over President Bush's chief political strategist continues, Republican leaders have found other ways to get their points across. For the second straight day, White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan refused to answer questions about Rove's possible role in disclosing the identity of an undercover CIA operative, saying Tuesday — as he had the day before — that comments might damage an ongoing criminal investigation into the matter.

"I want to be helpful to the investigation. I don't want to jeopardize anything in that investigation," McClellan said during another contentious briefing as reporters bombarded him with questions about the White House deputy chief of staff.

Yet, at the same time, the Republican National Committee — closely allied with the White House and chaired by Rove protege Ken Mehlman — distributed a 3 1/2 -page set of talking points defending the president's chief political strategist and attacking Democrats and the CIA operative's husband, an outspoken critic of the administration's Iraq policy.

A case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing?

Hardly, old Washington hands said: The White House's strategy appears to be a textbook example of trying to change the subject by shifting the focus.

"The RNC is trying to get the attention off the White House," said David Gergen, a Harvard University government professor who has worked for presidents of both parties. "A week ago, this was all about the press. Now it's back to the White House, which is not what they want."

These guys in the Tribune Group have some sort of deal going with Department of Justice regarding their mis-statement of their circulation used to rip-off their advertisers.

DOJ should reconsider the deal and just let these people hang.

If Bernie can do it, so can they.

RNC is doing a great job of pointing out facts not lies and if it bothers Gergen, they are on the right track! :)

"The RNC is trying to get the attention off the White House," said David Gergen, a Harvard University government professor who has worked for presidents of both parties.

Gee, is that the same David Gergen who tried to deflect attention from Bill Clinton and Sandy Berger by saying, "I have known Sandy Berger for a long time," He would never do anything to compromise the security of the United States." and that "it is suspicious" that word of the investigation of Berger would emerge just as the Sept. 11 commission is about to release its report, since "this investigation started months ago."

Why should David Gergen have any credibility whatsoever?

...an undercover CIA operative...

I haven't seen any evidence of that yet. Sure wish I could be an "undercover CIA operative" with a desk job. What a joke.

Considering the source, not even worth the time to read.

Hey LA Times, why don't you find out if Judith Miller is being paid hush money by the NY Times to go to jail and keep quiet about her mystery source?

Check out Hugh Hewitt.

During the amicus briefs regarding the jailing of the reporters, the legal position to support no jailing was: no crime involved.

Yes, from lies to facts; exactly opposite of how the Dims and their pet MSM rags would go about it.

I smell a rat.

Last week you're thowing around nice terms like towelhead, and today you're playing devil's advocate.

You have to ignore the facts that are already in to come the conclusions the NYT and other members of the media have become orgasmic about.

The same facts are cited by the same media members lawyers in briefs to relieve Miller and Cooper from having to testify.

Did you know Rove signed a general release of confidentiality 18 months ago? What exactly do you suspect Rove did?

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/09/29/novak.cia/

"Wilson at one point suggested that senior Bush adviser Karl Rove could have been behind the leak, which the White House denied. He backed off that assertion somewhat Monday, accusing Rove of at least condoning it."

Even JOE WILSON admitted it wasn't Rove - in 2003!

Now if we could just get them fired up about illegal immigration, we'd have something.

Yeah, I know. Partisan pi**ing contests take priority. My bad.

Do you think Carl Rove would have signed a release of confidentiality 18 months ago (before the election) if he had done anything wrong?
