Republican nominee for the 2nd Congressional District Jean Schmidt met with President Bush in the Oval Office June 29. During that meeting, Schmidt was given a handwritten note from President Bush to be delivered to the parents of Sgt. Matt Maupin, the only U.S. serviceman listed as Missing In Action in the Iraq War. Schmidt flew to Washington, D.C. for a quick meeting with Bush. During that meeting, the president recognized a button with Maupin's photo Schmidt was wearing.
Bush asked Schmidt about Maupin and then wrote the note asking Schmidt to deliver it to them. Schmidt gave the president the button she was wearing to keep.
While in Washington, Schmidt also briefly met with U.S. Trade Representative Rob Portman, U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, and U.S. Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman.
Thought this would interest you, I know you have been following his captivity.
Offer a prayer for Matt Maupin and his loved one's and friends, we MUST NOT forget him.
Thanks for the ping, he is in my thoughts and prayers and will be in my tag line until his fate is known.
Rolling Thunder is doing work to make sure that he isn't forgotten. Please visit this link to find out how to help.
I hope and pray for his return. I can't fathom the pain and worry his parents must be suffering still, after all this time. Thank you for the reminder.
Matt Maupin PING, we must not forget him, but it seems seldom that he talked about in the news.
Even with the President writing a note to the parents, get's lost in the news, well no coverage at all.
Hard to imagine that there is ONLY ONE young man missing from this war and we cannot find him.
Will certainly keep him and his family in my prayers! Thanks for the ping.
I have no doubt of your concern and prayer's for this young man, which is why I Pinged you.
I love your tag line, and I have faith he will return to this country, I would just want him alive but he must come home and the parents deserve nothing less.
Thanks for your comments friend.
Awesome, thank you for adding the link to the thread, it certainly shows that there are folks who have not forgetton him and will continue to do what it takes to bring him to his family.
I think of him every time I put on my POW bracelt with his name engraved on it. I will not give up hope.
Thanks for this. I've followed his story and pray for him and his family. It seems so sad that our Senators seem more concerned and engaged about terrorist thugs in GITMO then our own.
I'll keep him in my prayers.
BTTT!!!!!!!!
If so one will let me know his current rank, I will amend my tag line. He has been promoted at least once and maybe twice since his capture.
Guess I should have read the title. Sgt. Maupin. I thought he was SSgt by now though.
Thanks for the post. I am always interested in any info about Matt.
Sgt. Maupin, his family and friends are in my prayers daily. Please let him come home.
Captured Soldier Promoted, but Status Unchanged - Sgt. Keith "Matt" Maupin (we MUST NOT forget him)
Thank you. I amended my tag line.
Bush asked Schmidt about Maupin and then wrote the note asking Schmidt to deliver it to them. Schmidt gave the president the button she was wearing to keep.
