BRUSSELS (AFX) - France has activated a clause in the Schengen open borders agreement enabling it to reintroduce border controls within the European Union, French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said.
'If we don't reinforce border controls when around 50 people die in London, I don't know when I would do it,' Sarkozy said on the sidelines of a meeting of EU interior ministers.

Sorta true, but not really. France has more than welcomed with open arms a large number of muslim immigrants. Chirac and the rest only get upset if the muslims fail to try and speak French.
France controlling it's border while the US won't? What a world, it's going to take a terrorist attack that can be proven to have come from the northern or southern border before our useless congress will do anything.

Still won't happen. Just as President Bush and the entire federal government has labled Islam "a religion of peace", illegal immigrants will be labled "peaceful immigrants" who only want to work and improve their lives and the lives of their families both here in American and back home.
The borders will remain WIDE OPEN.
True, but the porblem with France shutting it's borders is that their population already has a large proportion of Muslims. Aside from their corrupt financial dealings with saddam, most of us realize part of their reaction in the WOT stems from the fact they are frightened by the people that are a significant part of their makeup now. Closing the borders will do little to protect them at this point.
I should add I am not of the contingent that believes all Muslims are enemies, but among those that are a large base operates out of France and has gained such population totals they are a force politically.
I think Bush wants to allow the borders to stay open so that the illegals who come across, can work and pay into Social Security, well, since, our domestic workforce can't handle it due to abortions and low birth rates.
I think Europeans are starting to realize that thier open borders are allowing terrorists and bombs to travel freely from country to country without scrutiny.
The problem in France is that some of the southern cities are predominately Arab....you'd think you were in Algeria or Morocco..
They tighten border checks - something that 90% of the people here want in the US - and get called cowards."
