YIKES...you still haven't got it! I said it was proper to seat people WHO DIDN'T KNOW MANY, OR ANYONE, with people whom they might/hopefully enjoy being with. After all, you do know the people whom you are inviting, so it is easier for you to know whose company they might enjoy.

I have quit going to weddings because I am neither married nor interested in marrying, nor dating, nor looking for a date -- and weddings are geared to celebrate Noah's Ark Syndrome.
My sister inadvertently ended up at a big party whose sole point was to watch and celebrate the Gold Medal Hockey Game between the USA and Canada. She holds about the same view of hockey that I hold of marriage, and watching her trying to pretend that she knew or cared what was happening reminded me a lot of myself at weddings.
They're fine for people who like them. For people who don't, they can decline and go racing, like I do.
