Modesto -- Authorities are conducting forensic tests on a 10-inch knife reportedly found at the home where convicted murderer Scott Peterson lived with his now-dead wife, but questions remain about whether it had been planted there recently.
"You could tell there had been liquid on the blade" and a "red stain on the handle," said Gerry Roberts, the man who recently bought the home.
Roberts said two of his friends found the knife last week inside a cabinet near the swimming pool in the backyard.

Realtor buys killer Scott Peterson's home for himself

A Modesto realtor has purchased the house of notorious double-murderer Scott Peterson and plans to make it his home.
"It's probably the most controversial home in the world," realtor Gerry Roberts said Friday when the sale was finalized. He paid $390,000 — $10,000 more than the asking price — for the bungalow where prosecutors believe Peterson strangled or smothered his pregnant wife, Laci, three years ago.
Peterson was sentenced to death in March for killing his wife and unborn son, Conner, on Christmas Eve in a case that riveted the American public.
Roberts, 54 and the father of three adult children, said that his bid was accepted after he sent Laci's mother, Sharon Rocha, and Scott's father, Lee Peterson, a letter praising the home's charm as "exactly what I had been looking for all this time."
"I will honor this home and plan to keep it in my family for many years to come," he wrote.
Scott and Laci paid $177,000 for the home in 2000. They had already converted one of the three bedrooms to a nursery for their first-born when Laci went missing. Her body and her baby's corpse were found nearly four months later in San Francisco Bay.
During escrow, vandals cut gas lines to a backyard barbecue and the gas meter, and drove into a brick wall on the property, Roberts said.
"There was a bit of craziness," acknowledged Roberts, who currently rents a home. "I realize the home and its occupants touched so many lives."

Modesto police skeptical of claim of knife found at former Peterson home
MODESTO, Calif. Modesto police are skeptical after the new owner of the home where Scott and Laci Peterson lived says a knife was found in the back yard.
Gerry Roberts, who bought the three-bedroom house earlier this month, says two friends found the ten-inch knife in a wood cabinet while cleaning the backyard last week.
Roberts also confirmed that he is considering releasing photos of the knife to a tabloid magazine.
Modesto police have sent the ten-inch knife to a crime lab for testing after receiving a media inquiry. It could be weeks before the results come back because the test is considered low priority.
Police spokesman Rick Applegate says -- quote -- "there is nothing to make us believe the knife was used in the crime."

Seems suspicious to me that after paying an inflated price, the new buyer 'finds' this evidence.

And get this: he has a photo of HIMSELF hanging in his cell. The profiler Candace Delong was also on, and got a big chuckle out of that, said how typical of a narcissist!
