Davis remarks not factor in Nats sale

DETROIT (AP) -- Baseball commissioner Bud Selig says remarks by a congressional committee chairman against billionaire George Soros won't be considered as the sport weighs offers for the Washington Nationals.

Rep. Tom Davis, a Virginia Republican who chairs the House Government Reform Committee, told Roll Call last month that "Major League Baseball understands the stakes" if the group Soros is a part of purchases the first-place team.

Soros has bought about half of Washington already, I guess he figures "Why not buy their baseball team, too?"

He'll be the anti-Carl Lindner (Reds' owner) in terms of politics.

If Soros buys the team I say enact a statutory reversal of the Federal Baseball decision of 1922, and make the business of baseball subject to Sherman Antitrust, and all other federal regulation applied to other businesses. He deserves to suffer just like the rest of us.

The more Soros spends on buying a baseball team, the less he has left to spend renting Congress. Let him buy a half-dozen teams.
