Bush White House Is Nicer To Enemies Than It Is Loyal To Its Friends (Rush)

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

There was a breakfast meeting at the White House today, and the president came out and discussed it. His meeting was with -- Let's see, who did he meet? -- Arlen Specter, Harry Reid, Patrick Leahy and Bill Frist. Yeah. So he met with Specter, Leahy, Frist and Senator Harry Reid about the current vacancy and what might be an up-coming one.

Just to set this up: last week, the president sort of smacked down some conservatives for daring to suggest that the attorney general, Alberto Gonzales, would be an unacceptable Supreme Court nominee because of substantive issues. One was an opinion he wrote in a Texas parental-notification case when he was on the Texas Supreme Court, and the other was his role as White House counsel in watering down the administration's brief against reverse discrimination in admissions policies at the University of Michigan.

Now, the conservatives didn't attack Gonzales personally; they were very respectful, but they nevertheless said publicly they had problems with him, and the president slapped them down -- and today has a meeting with his enemies, along with Frist and Specter. I don't even know that you'd call Specter a friend in this fight, and it just seems that on occasion the administration here is far more friendly to its enemies than it is to its friends. It does appear that way. I don't know why he's meeting with these people. It's not going to change what the Democrats say about him. It's not going to change how they act in the Senate. It's not going to change a thing -- unless, of course, they gave him a list of names and he names one of them, in which case, you know... I can't imagine that. So we'll just have to wait and see, but we do have these audio sound bites. There's some public opinion out there that does not look good for the Democrats, and you'd think the administration could capitalize on it.

The last two only took a week or so.

Have you been getting RNC donation requests? I send all mine back with a list of steps that they would have to take in order to get any more money from me.

"I consider myself a passionate conservative... not rabid, but passionate."

I think 'conservative' doesn't need a qualifier. It almost seems like when W said 'compassionate conservative' that meant he is for spending like crazy to save the 'compassionate' part but the 'conservative' part only means 'I could have spent more'. But what do I know?

I dusted off my credit card and became a monthly.
I can't think of a better place to be.

"doing the left's bidding"

There is no evidence to support that statement.

Being civil to a bunch of snakes is just how our President is. If we don't like it - it's our problem.

Rush mentioned it today and I believe he's right .. this is a rope-a-dope. Here's the President being friendly, kind, considerate .. the dems THINK they're getting their way .. but when the time comes to nominate .. the hammer will fall and the dems will be apoplectic - and will therefore show themselves for the true idiots they are.

He hasn't nominated anyone yet. Perhaps a bit premature for fussing and complaining? Let things play themselves out first. Regardless GWB will nominate who HE wants, not who Rush wants or who we think should be nominated.

Maybe others decided a vacation was a better place to be right now.

It looks to me like the idea is to get the electorate so disgusted that we do not vote anymore, continue globalizing the economy and our laws and then what can we do? Start another new country somewhere?

I could say more, but that's enough to maintain my marginal FReeper status.

And once again I ask, how is ignoring, insulting and castigating your friends a way of keeping them close? None of the quoters have an answer.

" I am finding myself increasingly upset with the high levels of spending, the lack of an effective border control policy, and the beaten-dog approach toward dealing with attacks from Liberals. "

The beaten dog approach is new for the 2nd term and we all hate it.
Where is the " Bring it On, Clymer, landing on an aircraft carrier, flying dark into BIAP for Thanksgiving " President Bush of the first term ?
The last 6 months, IMHO, President Bush has been very passive , always turning the other cheek as the Democrats and the Clintons trash him.
If I see one more photo op of George HW Bush hugging and gushing over Bill Clinton ," our adopted son," I'll go screaming into the night.
It should be Rush Limbaugh and other conservative talk show hosts being treated to an excursion on the Fidelity, not Bill Clinton.
If one didn't know better, we would think this was President Bush's first term, after a close election and not his second, after a mandate.
Long past time to take the gloves off and remember to dance with those that brung you .

I say we don't need DC. Keep the reps in the States they rep. They can teleconference--they don't pay any attention to what's being read into the record anyway. If they had to live where their constituents could get hold of them maybe they would remember who they are representing. DC is a nasty pit and you can't live in a nasty pit without getting some nasty on yourself.

Swagger and bravado is a lot easier than and no substitute for leadership.

The only "bitter partisans" in this country are the left.

There is absolutely nothing bitter or vile coming from conservatives. Standing up for our principles is bitter? Rebutting lies, hate speech and a continuous stream of filth from the left is partisan?

Spare me. If you have no principles, you have nothing. Real conservatives believe in honor and loyalty. Ain't much of that in DC.

O'Neil, liberal as he was, was nowhere near the hate-filled obstructionist as a Daschle, Reid, etc.
