Sen. McCain [R-AZ] Strong Words On Supreme Ct Nomination at Dallas Fundraiser: 'During the campaign, President Bush said he will appoint judges who will strictly interpret the constitution... thinking anything else is either amnesia or ignorance... elections have consequences... whomever he nominates deserves an up or down vote and no filibuster... and an up or down vote is what we will have'...

ooops sorry cross posting
should have said:
McCain?!
To: Imani
WoW! I'm stunned. I can't believe McCain said that. He must have been feeling the heat after the Insignificant 14 made their own "peace accord." There was such an outcry that McCain knew he would NEVER be the Republican candidate if he screwed up any Conservative appointments. Still, I would never trust him.
I'm waiting for McCain and Kennedy to introduce their new amnesty legislation. THAT should be the last nail in McCain's coffin. By the time the uproar ends over that, he will wish he'd never even considered amnesty for illegals.

Well, this is surprising.
Trying to jump out in front of the train and look like he's leading, don'tcha know. Remember someone else used to do that with a press release on each and every major event even if it was just a threat of FOIA.....
Regardless, I hope he maintains this position.

"Oh goodie. McCain's on our side, today"
Sen Warner and Lindsey Graham have already announced that they will not support a filibuster (I think Graham is running for president given how McCain like he has been acting.) That means the other five Republican Senators have to fold including that jerk McCain because to join the rats in losing would end their careers. The demon-rats better hope than can impeach Bush, because thanks to Frisk the rats are sunk. In fact the seven rats might force a vote.

It comes as no suprize that McCain bashers will ALWAYS find the dark cloud regardless the size of the silver lining < /sarcasm >...SHEEECH, will he ever get a decent break when something goes your way!
Not from me he won't. He's proven over and over again he's a lunatic, unreliable, and dangerous ( McCain Feingold). If he resigned from the Senate tomorow I wouldn't shed a tear.

Right now, ol' horseteeth Warner still thinks he can be president. Frankly, I don't know if the "Ex Mr. Taylor" Warner is going to run....but I'd presume so.
It's hard to say.........
To: wrathof59; Imani
Why don't you think we will get the nominee we want? The Dems can whine and moan about how extreme the candidate is and how bad they would be but they can't filibuster the nominee.
We have the majority and the Senate has only advise and consent. President Bush nominates a judge. The Senate makes lots of noise (OK, the Dems make lots of noise), debate ensues and finally a vote is held. As much as the Dems have been a solid block in their voting, they still don't have the numbers to block a nominee.
ABSOLUTELY NO reason why the SCOTUS opening will not be filled. RINO's listen up.

Should be interesting. History in the making.
My guess is that it will end in a compromise where the Democrats end up giving more than taking.
Of course, once the "nucular" option is exercised, the Democrats will have lost the filibuster. And then Bush would be able to get just about whomever he wants through confirmation. Count on threats from the Democrats to walk out, etc. Don't know if this will happen. But it will be something to tell your grandchildren about.
To: Imani
So he's decided to come back into the fold? Why didn't he understand this same message with the other blocked jurists? Like a flag blowing in the wind, but if it helps President Bush and our Constitution, I will sure as Hell take it.
To: Imani; Miss Marple
I don't believe him for a second, and this statement has no face value.
I do believe that he will go to war for the nominee that he supports, namely Mr. Gonzales.
Miss Marple, I have pinged you because I still believe that Bush will vett Gonzales. We will see.
