And if Valerie wants to live a quiet spy life, she should stop having her picture taken by society photographers and stop getting stories written about her on the front page of the Times.Add to this her husband's very public political influence within the dem party.

And Wilson lied. Repeatedly.I still think all the leaks will lead back to Wilson himself.

Well .. this is great. I read that Woodward poo-pooed the story tonight on Larry King.
And .. there's another story saying it may be Judith Miller who is the leaker.

Thank you so much for this post. This is just what I needed. A Democrat acquaintance couldn't resist sending me the accusations against Rove, and now I can repay his "gotcha" act with the facts!

So the story is, a Gore supporter in the CIA casually suggested another Gore supporter go to Niger on the eve of war, and he reported false information back to the administration that defeated Gore--false information about the nation we were about to go to war with.
Sounds more serious than "someone spoke to a reporter to correct errors in a national security story and he repeated common knowledge about someone who everyone in DC knew about already."

There are two parts of this puzzle that continue to bother me:
1. Why would Miller sit in jail for Rove or any Republican?
2. Why would the special prosecutor continue the investigation if he could find no law broken? If it were me, I would shut the investigation down as soon as I hit a terminal dead end, write a report and get back to making big lawyer bucks.

One more thing I do not understand:
If Valerie Plame was not undercover or had been under cover in a foreigh land for the prior five years, then the staute in question does not apply. Therefore she must have been covert during this period.
