The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

There was an amusing and instructive phone call to the Jeff Katz show (KNEW 910) at 2:45 this afternoon.

Caller Cindy said that she and her daughter got on BART in the east bay. Because it was so crowded they had to split up. Her daughter ended up sitting next to a guy in a seat facing the handicapped seating.

She glanced down and saw him sketching something on a piece of paper in his lap.

She looked up and noticed that they were sitting in front of the BART evacuation map, a second glance down showed that he was sketching it. She says she felt a wrenching in her gut upon realizing what he was doing.

He noticed her looking and grabs the paper, folds it and puts it in his pocket.

They get off at the Powell station and immediately track down the BART Cops, report what they had seen, describe the guy and offer pictures of him from her digital camera, and her daughter's cell phone camera.

BART can't download them so they go to the closest Walgreens and have instant prints made.

BART was able to catch the guy a few stops down.

She called back at 2:55 to add that he looked middle eastern and was taking notes in arabic.
Two points (And the people I'm rubbing them into know who they are, don't you?)

1) Terrorists do make dumb mistakes.

2) Under the right circumstances, a digital camera/cell phone is an effective weapon.

Yes, they do like their 4's.

When we first started this thread, there was a jihadi post that had a bunch of numbers on it.

One thought was that it was area codes for the phone.

For some reason, I started using 444, 440, 44, 19 on the
front of jihad type searches and it would pull things in Google that we were not getting by other methods.

I also used 1425 a lot, as that was the muslim year, haven't tried the 1426 as yet.

I will still stand on the thought that the bombs could be here, and have no doubt that the supplies are available.

Dr. Bill Wattenberg says they must be maintained.

At one time, I googled for the missing scientists from Pakistan and Russia, there are hundreds of them that were without work in the last 20 years and they moved on to other countries.

One report that I found, said that we had allowed a bunch of the Russian scientists to move to America and that Russia is paying them each month for our secrets.

If you have a scientist trained to build and maintain nuclear bombs, then I would think he would know how to maintain the bombs in working order.

No, I do not think they were buried or put in a storage shed for the last 20 years and still be expected to work.

I could be wrong or even correct in my thoughts. Who knows, if I have to choose, then let me be wrong, with real proof that they do not have them stored here or anywhere.

That was an amazing and awesome post.

It makes so much sense and answers a lot of questions I have. I wondered about the following as well. Bin Laden does not make meaningless threats, so I too wondered how did he come up with 2 million adults and 2 million children. Your scenario makes perfect sense.

Suspicious Package Found on Light Rail Train

Glen Burnie, Md. (AP) - The Cromwell Field light rail station in Glen Burnie is closed because of a suspicious package found aboard a train.

The train is still at the station, and Anne Arundel County fire officials have called in a bomb squad from the State Fire Marshal's office.

The call reporting the package came in shortly before
5 p.m. Lieutenant Roy Phillips with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said he didn't know what the package looked like. The station is the southern terminus of the Maryland Transit Administration light rail, which runs from Anne Arundel County through Baltimore to its northern suburbs.

Thanks for pinging me here. I'm on a very intense project that has me out of town for a few weeks.

Alibek's acknowledgment of the number of people who can make drug resistant anthrax indicates that we have a large potential number of parties that could employ bioweapons against us. Our medical facilities aren't really up to the task of dealing with bio attack. It is unlikely that even a small number of patients would be properly diagnosed in time.

Of course the Americans will have to be prepared that hundreds. . . of cities will be destroyed by the Chinese.” Mr Zhu is a self-acknowledged “hawk” who has warned previously that China could strike the US with long-range missiles. But his threat to use nuclear weapons in a conflict over Taiwan is the most specific by a senior Chinese official in nearly a decade. . .


IIRC, Gen. Xiong, the gentleman who told Chas Freeman in late 1995 that China would nuke LA if we were to intervene in the Taiwan Straits, gave another speech warning the US to stay out of it. It came a few weeks after they had concluded the largest military exercises in Chinese history - - a rehearsal for the invasion of Taiwan and the resulting war with the US. The start of these exercises had begun months before in the spring of 2001, and the movements were what the Navy plane that was forced down on Hainan was trying to observe.

I may be wrong, but I believe Xiong gave that speech a matter of hours before the first plane struck the WTC on the morning of 9/11.

Curious timing in light of this new "unofficial warning" from China (there is no free speech in general, and specifically, no merely "personal opinions" coming from a PLA Major General at a news briefing).

WASHINGTON (AP) Support for Osama bin Laden and terrorist bombings against Americans and their allies in Iraq is falling in several heavily Muslim countries, particularly those where terrorist attacks have occurred.

According to surveys conducted for the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, young people in Morocco, Lebanon, Pakistan and Turkey view America more favorably than the overall populations in those countries.

However, the research found solid majorities in Lebanon, Pakistan, Turkey, Jordan and Indonesia have an unfavorable view of the United States, while Moroccans are split.
