ON THE night they brought in 35 more Australian troops to do Australia's fighting, the little man with the eternal light was out in the Iraqi suburbs, weaving whatever it is that makes the legend grow.

"Big power," he calls it, and he couldn't be more right.
Not so long ago, Colonel Muhammad Faiq Raouf was handing out toys and school supplies to children in the Iraqi suburbs, when a small tip came his way. It was not simply an act of goodwill, although that is the pleasant by-product.
"What happens when you're nice to the people is that a lot of times they will give you information about bad guys in the area," says Randy Green, a captain in the US Army serving under Colonel Muhammad.
All part of a normal operation, Colonel Muhammad got a handful of tips about houses in the area and so he squared off an area about 2km long and 500m wide and his squad of some 200 men began knocking on doors.

Bomb scare triggers evacuation in Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON — A Bee-Line bus was stopped and evacuated on Prospect Street.
Mount Vernon police cordoned off a two-block area and rushed people out of stores.
The Westchester County police bomb squad was called.
A Metro-North Railroad train was stopped, and all vehicle traffic in the area was diverted.
All of this because of an unattended black bag left on the bus. The bag, it turned out, contained a harmless clothing steamer.
"We live in an era of terrorism," said Mount Vernon Deputy Police Chief Joseph Pizzuti, explaining all of the precautions taken yesterday afternoon after the unattended bag was spotted on a seat of the occupied bus. "You have to be prepared."
The bus sat unoccupied with only the package aboard for nearly two hours until Detective Thomas Barker of the county bomb squad shot it with a water cannon. Inside he found the portable steamer.
Authorities did not know who had left it on the bus.
"We realized the inconvenience to people, but it is so much better to be safe than sorry," said Lawrence Salley, the county commissioner of transportation.
"Of all the places in Westchester, why are you going to blow up Mount Vernon?" remarked David Moore of Elmsford, 20, as he watched the police activity. "I wouldn't be surprised if somebody got shot, but there aren't any targets for terrorists here."
The incident began about 11:15 a.m. when a woman passenger on the No. 55 bus, heading from Dyre Avenue in the Bronx to the Cross County Shopping Center in Yonkers, spotted an unattended black thermal lunch bag. The woman told the driver, Jorge Vasquez, about the package. He stopped the bus and called Bee-Line headquarters.
Vasquez, a driver for six years, said he was told to evacuate the 20 passengers and call the police.
Some people, he said, were "a little angry."
"He followed every procedure," Salley said. "He did exactly what he was trained to do."
When city police arrived, they called the county bomb squad. They also evacuated pedestrians, shoppers and merchants.
"It took 70 percent of my business that I do during the day," said Raj Verma, owner of Chicken Hut and Blimpie on Prospect Street. "It's so sad, but when things like that happen we have to be on our guard."
Mike McKenzie of Scarsdale, 42, was on Gramatan Avenue waiting for the No. 7 bus to Yonkers when the commotion started two blocks away on Prospect Avenue
"These terrorists are all over the world: here, there, those homegrown ones," McKenzie said. "They're religious fanatics. It's very scary what's going on."
Barker and his partner, Detective Robert Outhouse, used an X-ray camera to scan the bag and spotted wires and a bulb.
Pizzuti said there was no reason for electrical equipment to be in a lunch bag.
"It might be someone playing games," the chief said. "It doesn't look kosher."
Police widened the evacuated perimeter for about two blocks. A Metro-North train heading through Mount Vernon was delayed, and the bomb squad set up the water cannon to explode the bag.
Meanwhile, a passenger from the Mount Vernon bus used his cell phone to send a text message to a friend who was on a No. 7 bus in Yonkers.
The message said there was a bomb on the bus. The No. 7 passenger thought it meant a bomb was on his bus, so he showed the message to his driver in Yonkers.
That driver called his headquarters, the bus was evacuated on Midland Avenue, and Yonkers police were called.
Police searched the bus but soon determined the message referred to the Mount Vernon bus.
"All is well that ends well," said Yonkers Detective Lt. Maureen Zadorozny.

What is even more disturbing is that they were alledgly born and raised in England. Been thinking about this and apart from the well documented nexus of islamio-facism that has been allowed to set up and operate in England, it brings concerns of similar acts here in the US - no need for OTMs. Haven't sorted it our further in my mind though - need more coffee.
Problem is it has already started. Reid (shoe-bomber) was an American IIRC. The beltway snipers - Americans. Recent criminals caught in the LA area w/ national guard info - Americans. Islamofacists have penetrated our prison systems - what better targets to harvest 'dead enders' from.
