ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Republicans took aim at Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday for comparing President Bush to Mad magazine's freckle-faced, "What, me worry?" kid, Alfred E. Neuman.
A Republican National Committee official said the former first lady was "part of today's angry and adrift Democrat Party," while a spokesman for one of her potential 2006 Senate rivals said she was guilty of "insulting the president."
"At a time when President Bush and most elected officials are focused on the security of our nation, Mrs. Clinton seems focused on taking partisan jabs and promoting her presidential campaign," added New York's GOP chairman, Stephen Minarik. "Her priorities are clearly out of whack."
Clinton's attack on the president came Sunday during a speech in Colorado.
"I sometimes feel that Alfred E. Neuman is in charge in Washington," Clinton said during the inaugural Aspen Ideas Festival, organized by the Aspen Institute, a non-partisan think tank.
The former first lady drew a laugh from the crowd when she described Bush's attitude toward tough issues with Neuman's catch phrase: "What, me worry?"
As Clinton gears up for a Senate re-election race in New York next year and a possible White House presidential bid in 2008, her attacks on Bush have become sharper.
In her speech Sunday, she accused the president of damaging the economy by overspending while giving tax cuts to the rich, depriving U.S. soldiers of equipment needed to fight the war in Iraq and cutting funds for scientific research.
"Hillary Clinton's opportunistic attempt to market herself as a centrist is like a wolf dressing up in sheep's clothing," said RNC spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt. "Such thinly veiled rhetoric doesn't change the fact she is part of today's angry and adrift Democrat Party."
Thomas Basile, a spokesman for potential Senate challenger Edward Cox, a son-in-law of the late President Nixon, said while Clinton was "busy insulting the president across the country, she is failing to produce the homeland security and transportation funding" the state needs.
Clinton has been accusing the Bush administration of providing inadequate funding for New York's security needs.
While national polls show the former first lady to be leading the pack among potential 2008 Democratic presidential contenders, Clinton has said she is too wrapped up in her Senate work and re-election effort to think about that.
This is good but where are our Republican Senators and Congressmen on this? Why are they soooo afraid of Hillary?

And why is the media so afraid of Hitlery? Threats of some sort for sure - such as no campaign advertising? Why did the MSM cower away from having the tell-all-book writer interviews cancelled? Is it unreasonable to assume the Klinton Mafia is running the MSM? And the comments about the Marxist Medusa leave out what she really is -- a power-mad part of the adrift and irrelevant liberal Dem party...and the list goes on.
What a stupid, whining response. This is what I expect from Democrats, not Republicans.
He should not question Ms. Clinton's right to make her comments, nor attack her for being "partisan."
He would have done better to cite the point I made in another thread, to wit:

According to a report by MSNBC: “The longest economic expansion in U.S. history faltered so much in the summer of 2000 that business output actually contracted for one quarter, the government said Wednesday in releasing a comprehensive revision of the gross domestic product. Based on new data, the Commerce Department said that the GDP — the country’s total output of goods and services — shrank by 0.5 percent at an annual rate in the July-September quarter of 2000.”

If a Republican burps after a meal, the rabid democrats start running up to the cameras - "outraged" - and demand the evil, insensitive burper step down from his or her position immediately!!!
I think they protest this too much...they risk giving her mostly-overlooked comments more currency, and thus turn A.E. Newman into a populist icon come 2006.

According to the group of people I know/work with, you are totally wrong.
Perception is reality. They all believe the economy was GREAT under Clinton. They believe we were at peace (if you say "Bosnia" they give you a puzzled look). They believe that terrorism began on 9-11. They believe that Hillary will lower their gas prices. They are even beginning to believe that Hillary was right about socialized medicine. They believe that Hillary will fight to "protect" their Social Security.
If you asked me 10 years ago if I knew anybody who would vote for Hillary, I would have laughed out loud. Now I am beginning to think that most of the people I know will vote for Hillary to be our next president.

My point exactly. That's why it is idiotic for Republicans to whine about Hillary's "partisan attacks," when they should focus on getting the truth out.
The Republicans need to be hammering away by talk about how W's tax cuts saved us from the "Clinton Recession."
Since that story is true, it will not be hard to keep hammering away on it until it becomes perceived reality as well as actual reality.
