How about a detonation with a walki-talki?

would that work?

If the cops and transit workers radios still work in the "tunnels" then this is just a BS feel good measure IMHO. Pagers, small FRS & GMRS over the counter rigs are still tools of these killers......if.

Perhaps we already have?

The NYPD has disconnected cellphone service in all the city's vehicular tunnels

Can they add theaters and restaurants to the list

Many cell phones have a "timer" option....kinda like an alarm clock. That can be set to transmit a signal to the initiator...or device like a blasting cap.

I flunked electronics in HS....someone more fluent in electrons could fill in the blanks here....LOL.

Some crazy moooooos-limb could still stap a bomb to a motor vehicle and have it detonate inside a tunnel this way. The driver may or may not even know he's transporting it.

I still believe it is a step in the right direction.
There is no perfect way to stop it.
Although I am a firm believer in racial profiling.

I agree. Wait until they use a lap-top computer to detonate a bomb at a Starbuck's somewhere. I guess lap-tops will be for forbidden in public. To coin a phrase: "Bombs don't kill people...terrorists do".

New york is not 'the battlefield'. Shutting off cell phones just makes it harder to find folks in the event of an incident, the terrorists rarely use the high tech, a lesson we refuse to learn. Fertilizer and Washing Machine timers. If you think about it 9/11 wasn't particurally high tech either. They used tiny knives to hijack a really big object to throw at he really big towers. I think background checks for Koran sales would do more than would cutting off cell phone calls. Just makes NY less business freindly and backward.

I would think it would. Leave a walk-talki on in a briefcase with explosives. The other walki-talki could be used to detonate it from a safe distance away in the tunnel.

You can phone it in and await your death or you can do something about it. I gave no exclusion to reporting, but they turned off cell phone service; remember?

Are you a 97 year old female? Do you think that you could quietly find a few big guys in their 20's or thirties to help you out?

Like I posted before there is no perfect way to fight terror.
But there should be racial profiling.

I understand that. But you said it can trigger without a signal.

That is what I don't understand.

What? Who me? I'd break the little fvcks neck before he even knew I was next to him.

I'd hope grannie would enlist my help, though.

Still, people do funny things under stress.

And it would help a subsequent investigation if some pictures of him (or her) got mailed out before anything noisy happened.

true...but what's the price of not doing it, you know? At least you take away one option...narrows them down. Just because you can't prevent every situation doesnt mean you shouldnt prevent the ones you can. IMHO.

You're right that it was a good idea, but so would have been keeping it a secret.
