YOU ARE NOT SUPERMAN

There are times when some events of life overwhelm us. Things at home or things at work can drain us. Sometimes we sense an urge to be "Superman" or even "God." We want to "fix" things or "make everything better." In reality, this feeling can be the source of great stress and tension. We sometimes have to admit that certain things can't be fixed; certain things will not go away. Got a problem, talk about it. It may not get "fixed" or go away,
but you will feel better!

Courage to us from above

2Cr 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

2Cr 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

2Cr 4:8 [We are] troubled on every side, yet not distressed; [we are] perplexed, but not in despair;

2Cr 4:9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

2Cr 4:10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

Do We Know God?

Read:
John 17:1-5

This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. —John 17:3

Bible In One Year: Isaiah 10-12

cover American writer Mark Twain was known for his wit and charm. On a trip to Europe he was invited to dinner with a head of state. When his daughter learned of the invitation, she said, "Daddy, you know every big person there is to know except God." Sadly, that was true, because Mark Twain was an unbelieving skeptic.

That daughter's comment should cause us to ask ourselves if we know God. We may be blessed with life-enriching friendships, acquainted with a wide circle of important people, but do we know God? And is our knowledge of Him more than second-hand information or speculation, the things we might read in books?

Jesus wanted His disciples to have an intimate knowledge of God. He prayed, "This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent" (John 17:3). This knowledge is intensely personal, and is gained only through a deep, prolonged friendship. Indeed, the knowledge referred to in this text and elsewhere in Scripture is compared with the intimacy of husband and wife as they become one (Genesis 4:1).

We can have that knowledge as we spend time talking with God, reading His Word, and sharing His love with the world. —Vernon Grounds

Into the heart of Jesus
Deeper and deeper I go;
Seeking to know the reason
Why He should love me so. —Smith

It's not enough to know God with your head; you must know Him in your heart.

Army Lt. Col. Brad Becker, commander of the 2nd Battalion, 8th Field Artillery Regiment passes out ice cream purchased in a local shop to the children of Qayyarah, Iraq, on Friday evening during a street patrol. Becker visited towns in the Tigris River Valley area of operations in hopes of persuading village leaders to cooperate in the ‘Peaceful March Against Terrorism’ and provide information on the insurgents.

The Light Bird will not be compensated for his out of pocket expenses because he failed to get a receipt in English according to an Army Finance Office spokesperson!

Iraqi army Brig. Gen. Ali Atalah Maloh speaks at a luncheon held Saturday at the Star Palace in Quayyarah, Iraq, following the march against terrorism. Attending the luncheon, left to right, are Sgt. Del Piero and Lt. Col. Bradley Becker, both of the 2nd Battalion, 8th Field Artillery Regiment, and Iraqi Brig. Gen. Ameen Soleman Mizory.

The falafel snacks were OK with most of the Troops, but some drew a line at the "fried monkey brains," and the "snake surprise" was universally rejected by the American entourage!

Capt. Jon Christensen of the 2nd Battalion, 8th Field Artillery Regiment listens to Faris Ahmed Shahouth's breathing during a two-hour medical civil action program (‘Medcap’), in Olm Al Mahar, Iraq, on Sunday. Christensen gave the Iraqi man, who suffers from hypertension, enough medication to last until he could reach an Iraqi clinic. An anti-armor unit from the 52nd Infantry Regiment provided protection during the Medcap while Christensen and medics from his unit provided basic treatment to about 25 villagers, most small children.

Who says that Iraqis do not have hearts?

Pfc. Matt Meiniger of Bravo Battery, 2nd Battalion, 8th Field Artillery Regiment, reads while he awaits the order to fire his howitzer in accompaniment of Tchaikovsky’s ‘1812 Overture’ as part of a planned July 4 celebration at Q-West operating Base, Iraq. A sudden dust storm moved into the Tigris River Valley in northern Iraq, forcing cancellation of the show.

Fortunately the private was able to read music, and the show went off without a hitch the next day following the dust storm.

First Sgt. Edwin Wittstruck waves to Iraqis from a Stryker vehicle as he conducts a patrol in Mosul, Iraq, on Wednesday. Wittstruck is a member of A Company, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, attached to the 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team).

Gosh is it me or do democrats, I mean donkeys always look so tired?

Soldiers climb down a staircase attached to a water tower as they search the area after an explosive device was detonated near a tunnel in central Baghdad on Wednesday.

The recently opened interactive M.C. Escher Museum in Iraq is a popular take for off duty Troops.

A suspicious vehicle is stopped and searched in Mosul, Iraq, on Thursday during a ‘Flash Traffic Control Point,’ in which Stryker vehicles cross a roadway median to create a surprise barricade. Such control points are used when a vehicle and its occupants match the description of suspected insurgents.

Hailing a taxi in Iraq is a lot more of a complex  procedure than it is in most other parts of the world.

Capt. Blake Lackey, commander of A Company, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, questions an Iraqi man who was seen indicating to a sniper the location of other members of Lackey’s unit in Mosul, Iraq, on Wednesday.

Amnesty International has recently lodged an official complaint with the UN because an American Troop, pointed a finger, which actually had a nail in it, at an Iraqi insurgent!

Sgt. Charles Lusk receives refreshments from an Iraqi man whose roof he and Capt. Blake Lackey had used to set up a “sniper over watch” position in Mosul on Wednesday. Lusk and Lackey hope to use the position to capture insurgents who frequently operate in the area.

"Hey, sewer rat might taste like pumpkin pie, but I'll never know" said the Iraqi when the Troop asked him "what is it?"

Staff Sgt. William Brown III and his military working dog, Tarzan, are part of new patrol dog detection operations in and around Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. The team will spearhead patrol dog detection, focusing specifically on outlying jungle spaces, to discover and apprehend anyone attempting illegal entry.

No illegal entry aggressors were actually injured during the taking of this photo.

Spc. Joshua Waguespack, left, and Sgt. Angelo Palacios congratulate each other after a successful mission against insurgents in Mosul, Iraq, on Friday. Both are members of 2nd Platoon, A Company, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment.

Look on the bright side, our Troops are OK, and the suicide wannabe insurgents are dead, so everybody should be happy.

Just another week at the office for our Troops
