ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Someone urinated in the holy water at a suburban Rochester, N.Y., Catholic church.

Four local teens have been charged with that and other vandalism.

Monroe County sheriff's deputies said the teenagers smashed wine bottles against the walls, left bicycle skid marks on the carpet, emptied the fire extinguishers and burned cigarette holes in the Saint Pious X Church.

The damage is estimated at $17,000.

Charged are 18-year-old Dan Seklar, 17-year-old Richard DeCarolis, 16-year-old Michael Street and a 15-year-old who is being charged as a juvenile. All are charged with burglary and criminal mischief, both felonies.

The boys have been released to their parents.

I know they'll say they're sorry and explain they confused it for a public urinal. Anything as long as they are not responsible for their actions.

They're just young, misunderstood expression artists looking for public funding.

Since it didn't take place in a black church, it's not hate. Got a problem with that? Yeah, I do.

Sounds like they should be sentenced to 5 years of attending Mass, or the church of their parent's choice.

When I was 18 I lived by myself...in my parents house, they were too busy with my stupid brother, who was locked up in Juvenile detention since he was 12...

I did hang out with a lot of bad people but I never did anything that they did...

My parents weren't around but I still had the grey matter between my ears to figure out the difference between acceptable and un-acceptable behaviour.

The 18 year old was probably the peer of the group, the younger ones followed the lead...

The older two aren't boys. At 18 I was a combat vet, at 17 my father was one. They need to recieve adult consequences.

When I was a teenager I gave my parents so much grief they probably wished that I lived by myself in ANOTHER house. When two Protestant parents consider sending their son to a strict Catholic high school to straighten him out, you know they're desperate! The threat of that caused me to mature overnight.

I hope your brother eventually straightened out.

Nah, he's still the same, he'll be 27 next year, still acts like a 16 year old sometimes...Just wish he would have some kind of eye opening experience that will get his head screwed on right, but I doubt it will happen though...

From the article:
"All are charged with burglary and criminal mischief, both felonies."

I noticed that the prosecutor has not charged these boneheads with a hate crime.

You might be interested in this story of an eye-opening experience told to me some years back by an old soldier. He said that a young private got assigned to his unit. This private got off on the wrong foot, and proceeded to get into all sorts of trouble. He was passed from platoon to platoon in hopes of straightening him out. Finally Private X, as I'll call him, was assigned to Sergeant Y's platoon. One morning Private X stumbled into his room after having been out all night (without a pass, of course). He fell into his bunk and passed out. His roommates began cleaning the room in preparation before going to work. Sergeant Y entered the room and asked, "What's wrong with Private X?"

"He won't get up, Sergeant," came the reply.

Sergeant Y walked to X's bunk and said, "Get up, X." Private X responded by opening one eye and making a remark about Sergeant Y's mother. Sergeant Y told the other men, "Get out and close the door behind you."

The old soldier told me that he and his friends next heard the sound of Private X's body colliding with the walls of his room. He said that when he left the unit a year later Private X had made a lot of progress.

That's not the end of the story. The old soldier said he got out of the army, then went back in after a while. Around 25 years later, as he approached retirement, he entered a building on an army post. He glanced up at the photos on the wall, and was surprised to see Private X smiling down at him. But it was now Command Sergeant Major X, the CSM of a major command a few miles away!

Sergeant Y's counseling method probably would not work in all cases, but in this case it did.
