U.S.: Rebels Suffered Sharp Blow In Baghdad

Number Of Car Bombings In Iraqi Capital Have Dropped Sharply

Jul 8, 2005 10:50 am US/Eastern

BAGHDAD (AP) U.S. and Iraqi forces have “mostly eliminated” the ability of insurgents to conduct sustained, high-intensity attacks in Baghdad, the top U.S. commander in the Iraqi capital said Friday.

Maj. Gen. William G. Webster Jr. said in a video-teleconference interview from Baghdad with reporters at the Pentagon that offensive operations by U.S. and Iraqi troops in recent weeks had sharply reduced the number of insurgent bombings. But he cautioned that it was too early to conclude that the insurgency has been broken.

“It’s very difficult to know when it’s over,” Webster said.

There were 14 to 21 car bombings per week in Baghdad before the May 22 start of the latest U.S.-Iraqi offensive, dubbed Operation Lightning, he said. That’s dropped to about seven or eight a week now, Webster said, attributing the improvement to the disruption of insurgent cells and the availability of more and better intelligence.

Webster said he expects to have a fully operational Iraqi army division, numbering 18,000 U.S.-trained soldiers, to take the lead in securing the Iraqi capital by October, when Iraqis are scheduled to vote on a new constitution. It is likely to take until next spring, however, before the Iraqi units are capable of sustaining themselves logistically over the long term, he said.

I thought the PC term was supposed to be 'insurgents', not rebels. The MSM is slipping.

Yeah, I love the "rebel" spin. It makes them sound like noble revolutionaries not bloodthirsty terrorists.

Or have they just done a "head fake" by sending the activation switch to AlQ Europe, soon to be followed by AlQ North America?

Posters shuld inundate every media outlet to make sure the term: Islmofacist terrorists is the useage. Not rebels, not insurgents. The MSM loves that but it is a lie. Now is the time to pound the Talk Radio outlets, Fox, and other media as well as the MSM by the useage of Islamofacist terrorists. The IRA is filled with terrorists but they are Irish. The Red Brigades are German-Slovakian terrorists. Muslim terrorists are Wahabbi-jihadists-Sharia Islamofacist terrorists. Let us label them as so.
