This is my first time posting...Please forgive me if I'm not doing this correctly or breaking any "rules". I was shocked by this, although I guess I shouldn't be.

... and, in a related story: the United States military issued a public call for "the immediate withdrawal of all librarians' heads from their respective nether regions."

And to enforce their demands, the ALA is sending out thousands of jack-booted librarians to revoke library cards.

The Council of the American Library Association (ALA) has passed a resolution that calls for the withdrawal from Iraq of all U.S. military forces and a return of full sovereignty to the people of Iraq. So? Are we really suppose to care what they think? WHO CARES?
Can't we just give them a few new books to keep them busy and out of peoples way?
Who are these arrogant turds, anyway?

In other news, the concrete finishers of America demand that gitmo be closed immediately. (/sarcasm)

I've read the text of the actual resolution. It looks like it came straight from the talking points of the DNC or MoveOn.org. It begins with something like, "Whereas, the justification for the invasion of Iraq has proven to be false . . ."

Wow. The erudite members of the ALA call for withdrawal, eh? I know that I'm impressed by their decision. /s I wonder what equally important and weighty decisions they've made lately in regard to their expressed area of expertise-- LIBRARIES.
To: katagious
I'm just shocked that librarians are passing political resolutions. What a wacky country we live in.

I'll listen to foreign policy demands from the ALA when they allow the State Deparment to decide what sits on their shelves. Let librarians run the libraries, let the government run foreign policy, OK?
Silly buggers...

I always thought it was a joke.
Maybe not.

The resolution further urges the U.S. government to switch its budgetary priorities from the occupation of Iraq to the improved support of vital domestic programsWhat? What vital domestic programs do we need that we don't already have? This nation is O.D.ing on social programs. They're killing us.
Decisions, decisions. Should we destroy ourselves through social programs, or let the terrorist kill us quicker and get it over with? Hmmmmm. That's a hard one.
To: katagious
Wow! That settles it, then.
All librarians out of Iraq!
