I was lectured on Freerepublic that I was supposed to "feel safer" because we captured Saddam -- even though there's no evidence that he was behind 9-11. Osama is the guy that Bush promised to get "dead or alive" -- but four years later, he's still out there, free as a jail bird.
Maybe it's time to refocus on the mastermind and culprits who were behind 9-11?
Prediction: I'll get flamed as a "DU provacateur" for advocating that we go after somebody who killed 3000-plus people on American soil.

You can know the "general" whereabouts of someone (which we probably do with UBL) but that doesn't mean you can get him!
We know the general whereabouts of Zarqawi (he is in Iraq!) - We have over 130,000 American soldiers there, but we haven't got him yet!

You have no clue as to how hard we have been chasing his as$ and number of lives that are constantly in jeopardy over trying to locate him.
Again it is just intellectually empty to suggest because we don't have him yet....we haven't been serious enough in trying to catch him. Nothing can be further from the truth.
It also seems extremely easy for you to ignore the fact that we have killed / captured over 3/4 of al Qeade's leadership, killed or captured thousands more al-Qeade foot soldiers, removed the Taliban from power and disrupted their established money sources to a huge degree.

I guess except the whole World with the video released last Oct (just before the Nov elections) - UBL talked of very recent events, including the John Kerry (of whom UBL didn't have a clue who he was in 2001). Additional audio tapes have come out from UBL over the past years as well (all dealing with recent events).
Your brief is to walk the razor's-edge of maintaining good relationships with Musharraf, Paki radicals, the Indian government and other interested parties while rooting out bin Laden. I think it's clearly in our interest to keep Musharraf in power because he's the only moderating influence in an Islamic fundamenalist country that is also armed to the teeth with nuclear weapons. Remember, the Pakis were sharing nuclear secrets with most of our enemies before Musharraf exposed the ringleader. But if M. goes too far in placating us, he'll die at the hands of domestic Paki terrorists. Remember what happened to his predecessor.
With your great wisdom and statesmanship -- which you've told us about so often here -- I'm sure you have better answers to these little problems than the officials and brave militry people who have dedicated their careers to solving them. You probably have better military intelligence too. Please give us all a report when you've accomplished the task, explaining just how you went about it. 1. Mush didn't expose the ringleader. The US did, with the help of Qaddafi and Mush had no choice but to Pardon Khan.
2. Mush's predecessor was overthrown by Mush in a coup d'etat. Mush then consolidated his position by having an election after 911 where he won something like 95% of the vote.

They were all audio, including the tape you mentioned from last october. There have been no videos since 2001.

Wrong - UBL put out full 46 minute video last Oct (before the elections) - Basically asking American's to vote for Kerry (or unelect GWB). It was a full video. Not an audio.
Though UBL has put out more than a dozen audio tapes as well.

How do you know we haven't gotten to him or that he didn't die the war in Afghanistan? Do you think it would be in our best interest to let the world know if either of those happened? I think that if we did get him, they wouldn't tell anyone because it's better to let him be the mystical figure that appears here and there like Elvis than to give terrorists an excuse to converge upon us like bats.
My personal opinion is that they probably already took him out and anything you hear about us trying to get him is mis-information to keep everyone in the dark.
We have eliminated a head of state who had links to the terrorists who were behind 9-11, who despised us, who would have done anything to pay us back for the ignominy we handed him in defeating him in battle.
We have done so under the watchful eyes of OTHER despots who now feel the cold finger of death on their spines and , consequently, are somewhat more inhibited in backing terror than they had been previously.
We have established a nascent Democcacy in a region of the world that fears more than anything a successful democratic state (which will strike a more deadly blow against them than limitless military divisions ever could) and which puts our death dealing military in close proximity to those above mentioned despots.
We have attracted many of the most motivated jihadists in the world to Iraq and have been killing them at record ratios.
We have SERIOUSLY cut off many of the terrorists around the world off from one another (INCLUDING OSAMA), even as we learn by fighting them thus becoming much more proficient at defeating them, which will serve us well when Iran is behind us and we can focus on others who are in fact deserving of our attentions.
We have come this far without seriously discommoding very many Americans. I haven't missed a meal or lost a single nights sleep while all of this work has been done. Have you?
If the Osama qestion troubles you go find him yourself. I think he's dead and I wouldn't be surprised if the President at least suspects that he is.
