I was lectured on Freerepublic that I was supposed to "feel safer" because we captured Saddam -- even though there's no evidence that he was behind 9-11. Osama is the guy that Bush promised to get "dead or alive" -- but four years later, he's still out there, free as a jail bird.
Maybe it's time to refocus on the mastermind and culprits who were behind 9-11?
Prediction: I'll get flamed as a "DU provacateur" for advocating that we go after somebody who killed 3000-plus people on American soil.
How dare you ask that! He's obviously a Churchill (Winston?) wannabe, who knows infinitely more than the rest of us unwashed peons.
Yea, but he's a Churchill buff. Haven't figured out which Churchill yet, though.
churchillbuff, do you ever tire of being wrong?
Ever?
You are too young to remember the UNIBOMBER. Took 18 years to find that dude and he lived right here in the United States.
When you get a good idea, think about it first and then bring if forward.
SNIPER
"Oi, Churchill, should churchillbuff call it a day?" "Oh yes!"

Many Saudi nationals were involved in the planning and execution of the plot. And many Pakistanis. And many Yemenis. And Egyptians. And so on.
The fact that a national of Iraq may have been involved in a planning meeting does not connect that state with the attacks any more than these other states. And with some of these other states, we know that government officials had both advance knowledge of the attacks and provided financial support to the planners.
That being said, regardless of how one views the Iraq-AQ ties, the ongoing military efforts in Iraq are not the same thing as the ongoing military efforts against the AQ leadership, and should not be equated with them. The goals are different, the methods are different, and the locations are different. And, given the choice between getting the leaders of the terrorists in Iraq and the leaders of the terrorists in the Afghan-Pak border region, I'll choose the latter every time.
hello,osama?,hello?

1) When did Zarqawi arrive in Iraq?
2) What's the name of the terrorist organization Zarqawi is running in Iraq?
3) Who does Zarqawi answer to?
This story is strange.
It's hard to imagine four
Navy SEALS would get
ambushed and routed
by something like twelve tribesmen.
It's even harder
to imagine how
tribesmen after years of war
would be able to
surprise and bring down
a US chopper en-route
to rescue the SEALS.
My suspicions are
the real insult to these men
is that the US
doesn't overtly
go after whatever State
is providing arms
and advanced training
to Afghanistan fighters.
The war's worth fighting,
so we should fight it,
where ever it leads, even
if it's to, say, French
espionage types.
After years of full-out war
with our armed forces,
these rag-tag rebels
must have deep-pocket, Old World
support to keep on
hitting us so hard
in Afghanistan, and mount
operations like
the new London blitz.
I think what we owe our men
is a real, honest
definition of
who's behind the bad guys, and
the will to get them.
sure, we agree with you in spirit.
now give us the details on how we find him, and how we invade Pakistan to go and get him?
I've discussed this a few times with some fellow conservative friends. I think the U.S. secretly already has Osama.
I remember a couple of years ago when it was being broadcast all over the BBC one afternoon and then suddenly stopped. We discussed the HELL that would break loose among the terrorists if they KNEW for sure the US has Osama. Imagine the attempts (and a few successes) they would make at mass kidnappings and murders of our government officials in retaliation. Imagine how the ACLU lawyers would SWARM like flies on fresh pooh to make sure he was not tortured (by panties on the head or hurt feelings) by our "brutal" military force.
Yes, to avoid all the crap mentioned above and more that I cannot even begin to discuss, I believe the U.S. has Osama and is keeping quiet about it and I'm ok with that.
I know where he is too - he's in Pakistan. Goss isn't telling us anything we don't already know. I think if we knew which house he was in, we would take it out. But we don't know to that level of detail. so what do we do? carpet bomb the city he's in? that tactic didn't kill Hitler, or Yamamoto, and likely would not get OBL either.
He's probably some Freshman acne-cratered wuss who still hasn't grown hair on on those peanuts that his mommy washes for him when she isn't servicing her pimp.
Iraq is not only PART of the war on terror, it's the BEST place to kill jihadists right now. Now, to quote Jack Nicholson in "A Few Good Men," I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post.
Yep, Karachi.
"I'm beginning to think you aren't a WINSTON Churchill buff, but a WARD Churchill buff."
I 2nd that!
So, we should have ignored Germany in WWII -- after all, Hitler had nothing to do with Pearl Harbor.
And with Hitler, Mussolini, and Tojo in plain sight in their capitals, it still took almost four years to stop all of them, and that with (real) contributions from the rest of our allies. Osama, on the other hand, is ... where, exactly? I'm sure you know.
