Missing Iowa Girl, 5, Found Dead
Fox News ^ | 07/07/2005 | AP

CHARLES CITY, Iowa — A young girl found dead in a river is believed to be a 5-year-old whose disappearance last week prompted a frantic search, authorities said Thursday. Searchers found the body about 7:40 p.m. Wednesday in the Cedar River (search), a couple of miles from little Evelyn Miller's (search) home in Floyd, Floyd County Attorney Marilyn Dettmer said. A positive identification was pending but Dettmer said it's believed the body is Evelyn, who disappeared last Friday. An autopsy was planned. Dettmer also said contrary to earlier reports, no arrests had been made and the investigation was continuing. The child's grandfather had said one person was arrested. Dettmer did not explain the discrepancy, or give detail on how the body was found or a possible cause of death. Hundreds of volunteers had joined in the search. Noel Miller, Evelyn's mother, has said she left her children, Evelyn, Gabriel, 2, and Damian, 1, with her fiance, Casey Fredericksen, at their apartment in Floyd, a small farming community about 110 miles northeast of Des Moines. When she arrived home from her overnight job later Friday morning, the apartment door was slightly open and Evelyn was gone.

Evelyn was last seen by two acquaintances of her mother's fiance about 2 a.m. Friday, asleep on a loveseat in the family's apartment. Those two men have been questioned by authorities and a search of their home was conducted.

Yep, HanneyBean.

Rest in peace, sweet little child. I pray for your loved ones. I pray that justice will be served.

Tragic end.

Ever notice how many of these missing /murdered children come from broken homes?
The mother and father have new sex partners drifting in and out of the child’s life. Soon the child becomes just as disposable to them as her other parent was.

Of course, it is just not PC today to be too concerned about family breakdown and its' effect on children and society.

sigh...

I'm almost afraid to hear what happened to her. Taking comfort in knowing that she's in the arms of our Lord now.

jessica lundsford's father, mark, while divorced from Jessica's mom, provided her a good home with him and his parents. Further, he worked hard in Florida to pass a bill to prevent child molestors from getting out after a short period of time and to better inform families of molestors within their midst. He did not even have time to grieve afterwards because he was hard at work with the florida legislature.

Personally, I think this story and the story of Shasta and Dylan is more compelling and more time should be placed on it vs. Natalie Holloway. Same with this little girl's story.

Actually, her stepdad was her dad and raised her from an infant. I heard this last night on Nancy Grace.

Exactly. That little girl is a victim of circumstance created by her mother and the mother's fiance - who had acquaintances drop by at 2AM{?}

I'm curious to see if that is who murdered her

The story is very unclear about who was sleeping and what went on when these 2 men showed up at the apt. The mother was at work apparently.

Almost always the child is in the "care" of the mother when this happens.

Women just can't seem to manage by themselves and need to bring a man, any man, into their lives to "comfort" them.

Rarely, if ever, do you hear about a child being abducted from the home of a single father who has custody.

Yep. White-trash Mommy needed a bed partner to shack up with, and her little girl paid the price.

"The mother was at work apparently."

I blame first these women; who are attracted to the worst men possible. Worse follows; when they entrust their children to their 'care'.

Love is blind; or maybe it is just desperation that blinds these women. . .

That said; it remains a tragedy; all the way around.

I hope those who share a similar lifestyle to that of Shasta's Mother. . .are seriously reconsidering their lifestyle choices. But I somehow doubt it.

Give me a break. I raised a wonderful child by myself, thank you very much. I had to constantly protect her against the very mean-spirited young men on our street, all of whom had a father in their homes. We moved, so I'm not sure whether they escaped the juvenile courts or not, but my daughter's doing very well in college, with a bright future ahead of her.

Facts are facts. Time to face reality. A child in the care of a single mother is at greater risk than a child in the care of a single father. It has been proven. Your particular case not withstanding.

I saw this little angel's picture and she was just so sweet. Prayers for her and her family and when will these evil deeds stop against our children?

Haven't you heard? You don't need a family to raise a child anymore...that's what the village is for.
/sarcasm

The child is now in the loving arms of the Lord.

It depends on the mother. And the father. Yes, all things considered, it's better for a child to have two parents in the home. And statistics bear that out. But lots of great kids come from single-parent homes and plenty of troubled kids come from two-parent homes. A child's home situation, as important as it is, does not have to determine how they will turn out. One good parent in that situation can help a child deal with their life so that they turn out well, happy and productive.
