Muslim leaders join condemnation
Muslim leaders have condemned the attacks on London and said they fear their communities could now fall prey to vigilante attacks.
Muslim Association of Britain president Ahmed Sheikh said the attacks would make the Muslim community less safe.
He said women in headscarves might be in particular danger and warned all Muslims to be especially vigilant.
Muslim News editor Ahmed Versi noted one of London's biggest Muslim areas, around Aldgate East, had been targeted.
Mr Sheikh said the unique good relationship Muslims had with the government and society was threatened.
"The person who did this was targeting along with wider British society the Muslim community, ruining the good relationship we have."
"Muslims have to be vigilant now, especially the mosques, and I hope the police will increase security" Ahmed Versi Muslim News
He said the police should consider extra protection for mosques and Islamic schools and said Muslims, particularly women in headscarves, should be vigilant and avoid unnecessary journeys.
"It is scary. A tiny element of the community will make use of this. It is a blow to us, to all of us. It is a moment of sadness and we send our condolences to the families of those who have been killed or injured."
Mr Versi said he had already received one threatening e-mail about the blasts.
"There might be some increase in attacks on the Muslim community especially visible aspects of Islam like mosques, community centres and women with headscarves.
"Recently there have been a lot of attacks on Muslim women on buses in London, it has increased during the last few months."
But he said the immediate Muslim revulsion at the attacks could help calm the situation.
"I don't think there'll be as high a number of attacks as after 11 September because Muslims have come out very strongly, especially Muslim leaders, condemning the attacks.
"I'm sure many Muslims will have been injured as well... one of the bombs - at Aldgate - was near to the east London mosque, it's a very heavy Muslim area.
"Muslims have to be vigilant now, especially the mosques, and I hope the police will increase security on mosques and Islamic centres."

"Muslim leaders have condemned the attacks on London and said they fear their communities could now fall prey to vigilante attacks."
It always comes back to that old chestnut, "vigilante attacks". Lovely article. Absolute minimal amount of sympathy for the dead and injured. Maximum whining about undocumented acts of discrimination and vigilante attacks.
The source of the terror is Islam
To quote Bruce Willis in Die Hard, "Welcome to the party pal!"
From what I read, there doesn't appear to be a whole lot of, read any, concern for non-muslims who have been impacted or run greater risks than paranoid vigilante attacks that this clown fears.
Perhaps he should start a "Muslims Against Terrorism" group and support the efforts around the world to halt it!!!
It sure as hell ain't the judeo-christian community blowing people to tiny bits!
Thanks for wasting my bandwidth and giving my mouse wheel finger carpel tunnel syndome as I feverishly tried to skip over it.
IMHO, a link would have been enough: I would have taken a look.
That's the bottom line and the only reason they're saying anything.
Muslim Association of Britain president Ahmed Sheikh said the attacks would make the Muslim community less safe.
They never, and i mean never "condemn" an attack without claiming that they will become victims or they will be "less safe".
Can you be any "less safe" than dead, like the actual victims here?!
Right! I couldn't help noticing your name.....ol' BlackJack took care of a Muslim problem when it reared it's ugly head. Perhaps we could take a chapter from his book. This is no time for political correctness. This is a fight for our very lives!
They don't have to worry about "vigilante attacks." British citizens can't own firearms now, and possession of a steak knife will soon be a felony.
And I must make the following observation. None of the terrorist attacks over the past several years have been perpetrated by blue-eyed Norwegians. I do not know of a single red-haired Lithuanian who has taken part in a terrorist attack. Likewise, the terrorists do not, as far as I know, include in their ranks fur-clad Finns. It's time for the world to wake up and quit playing the political correctness game. We are under attack by a barbaric ideology stuck somewhere between the 7th and 14th centuries. Are we just going to lie down and take it as they overrun us, or are we going to fight back?
"Muslim leaders have condemned the attacks on London and said they fear their communities could now fall prey to vigilante attacks."
Should read: "Muslim leaders have condemned the attacks on London BECAUSE they fear their communities could now fall prey to vigilante attacks."
Franchise Club GITMO...
I didn't want to link it. Get broadband and quit complaining.
Excellent; best idea so far....
If they want to show they're good citizens, round up the militants for us. Otherwise, discrimination is actually a matter of prudent survival tactics.
Regards, Ivan
