GW better elect a true conservative or there are going to be defections from the pubbie party.

No offense, but it's hard to take your comment seriously when you are confusing the terms "nominate" and "elect".

I'm concerned he'll nominate GOnzales but don't really think he will.

Reason-he has always surprised us. Think about who he nominated to his cabinet-almost no one at FR got it right.

"Phillips concluded: "Roy Moore is the best choice that President Bush could make."

Oh yeh....Roy Moore would set off bigtime fireworks.... I say go for it. Let the Dim'Rats go bananas over this one. Screw 'em. The American people would see such a hellish attack that the faces of evil will be exposed to all. Christianity would be attacked so viciously that a blowback would occur and inspire the base bigtime. I would love and pray to see Roy Moore appointed SCOTUS. Never say Never.

You got that right.

Everyone in DC (on both sides of the aisle) heads' would explode or start spinning around (a la Linda Blair in the Exorcist).

No matter whether you think Judge Moor was a grandstander of principled Christian conservative, he'd be lucky to get 42 votes for confirmation. The battle for his confirmation would destroy the GOP.

Howard Phillips, try again please.

If you're going to do that, then why not nominate Limbaugh or Levin?

Chuck Baldwin:

It would just be nice if conservative leaders had the character and integrity to tell the truth about George W. Bush. If Bush were really the genuine conservative that he is made out to be, there would truly be no reason to try and bombard the White House with letters and phone calls. If Bush were a true conservative, could he not be trusted to do the right thing on such a monumentally important decision?

Good point. But, Bush and the Republicans ought to know what group of people -- conservatives -- elected them and realize that future election victories depend on making thier base happy. I have no problem reminding them of this fact as many times as is necessary.

Failure to nominate a Scalia-like, originalist judge will bring the most catastrophic consquences the Republican party has seen since Watergate.

Yeah, it is. Also, his defense of the Att'y Gen'l was too personal and invites some attack.

No, I agree with you, actually. I meant conservative in the judicial sense not the political sense.

There is a little thing called "Been Impeached and thrown off the bench" that might be an obstacle :-)

But I think he would be a great choice if it wasn't for that little detail

I want a person who believes in the Constitution. I don't think that Roy Moore is that person.

I just heard on the radio that president Bush took a bad spill on his bike, a police officer was also hurt.

"I would like to see John Ashcroft on the Supreme Court."

Which one? I'd be all for Senator John Ashcroft. That guy in the AG's office? Not a chance in Hell.

Or David A. Keene. With Keene and Thomas on the high court, I think we'd see a whole lot of things change for the better in terms of the cases coming out of there.

If you believe in billion dollar lawsuits, then you believe in Moore justice.

And to be honest, Moore is not interested in the United States Supreme Court. This whole thing has been an exercise designed to allow Moore to play the role of "crusader" when he declares for Governor.

It's just a shame that so many people can't see through him.

Or me. I guaranty you I'll vote to overturn Roe, and half the other cases written in the last 40 years.

"Failure to nominate a Scalia-like, originalist judge"

Scalia's gone a little weird lately, especially with respect to states' rights. I tend to think he's leaning whichever direction will please the people who can get him to that chief justice position. I certainly hope I'm wrong and this is a bout of temporary insanity. Otherwise, he's lost a ton of respect from me. If anyone, I think I'd have to push for someone more like Thomas, who tends to stay rock-solid on Constitutional principles.
