Can you blame him? The character assassination of Gonzales right here on this board was totally disgusting.

You might not want Gonzales on the USSC, but he's a good man and didn't deserve the kind of bile that was being spewed against him. I'm proud that President Bush stood up for his friend and character assassination is as bad coming from our side as it is coming from their side.

How is it "character assassination" to point out the simple facts of Gonzales' record, including his zealous and aggressive support of affirmative action. What are you proposing as an alternative? Blind support?

I can see your assertion and appreciate it. However,The President of the United States, putting in a strict constructionist/originalist as a key USSC Justice, who no doubt will be THE tipping vote to effect our lives for the next thirty or so years--keeping us one step away from Culture of Death/Culture of Atheism Judicial Tyranny, MEANS MORE TO ME at this point than any amount of his personal loyalty to any friends he may happen to have.

The President's BIGGEST FRIEND is the United States itself and it's future.

Gonzales may be a fine man, but if he is then he can stay in the post he has only recently been selected for.

Who is character assassinating? You mean we can't examine a judges voting record or rulings? Since when has that been an attack to question valid criteria?

I don't know what others said about Gonzalez, but all I said, and other posters that I read, is that he is regretably pro-abortion and has other failings as well in his legal views.

I supported him as Attorney General, but I oppose him adamantly as a Supreme Court Justice. I have many friends whom I like and admire, but I would not want them sitting on SCOTUS making legal decisions for our country.
