I take it you don't actually know anyone who's devout.

And I suppose you have absolutely nothing against the Islamic fundamentalists. You know, the ones who dress up their women in burqas, stone them to death if they get out of line, and believe that kidnapping and beheading civilians is a legitimate form of warfare.

But I reckon we've come to expect this from you by now.

This has the scent of a Wallis style DNC talking point of trying to break Christians into factions in order to "peel away" some in the next election.

As a strategy, it's more likely to tick'em off mightily, at least the folks I know, anyway.

Do you even know what "Amen" means?

This article does not represent Gods will, it is more a blasphemy of it.

On the first anniversary of the destruction of the World Trade Center, President Bush gave a speech in New York in which he said that the "ideal of America is the hope of all mankind." Six billion people on earth are not Americans; to call America their hope is, to put it mildly, hubristic.

Perhaps if the writer believed in literal readings, he would understand Bush's statement:

Bush didn't say "America is the hope of all mankind". He said "the IDEAL of America is the hope of all mankind."

That's liberty, freedom of speech, freedom of worship, self-sufficiency, government OF the people, and a lack of intermediaries between the people and government and God.

That's what people came and DO COME to America for, and that is the IDEAL of America.

...a lack of intermediaries between the people and government and God.

What does this mean, a lack of lobbyists in Washington? Lay-led Christian congregations?

I don't understand how George Bush's Republican Government is helping to move us in the direction of ideals expressed in your post.

The manipulators who convert the very "blood of the Lamb" into the phrase "the American people...."

The President draws on his personal faith when describing the American people. He is saved by the blood of the Lamb and knows the difference.

Mr. Duncan desperately needs to confront the truth of the burning bush. His worship of nature is shallow and worthless. That same beautiful stream can become a raging torrent, destroying everything in its path. Nature is not God, else we should all be eaten.

All well and good on several points, but I've found over the years that those who challenge literalism usually have found some teachings in the Bible that they just don't like and would prefer to find a way around. Better to write them off as particular to the culture of the times, or to mistranslation, or to overzealous followers who exceeded their doctrinal authority. Some of my favorites:

* Jesus never really said he was God.
* In other, "hidden" texts, Jesus didn't perform miracles, you know.
* Paul obviously had a personal hangup with homosexuality. Jesus never said anything about it, and was too nice and loving to be mean to gays and expect them to be celibate.

Amen to what exactly? There's so much 'stuff' going in all directions in this screed, it's hard to tell what it is that you are 'amening.'

Why do you hate those that love the Lord and try and serve Him to the best of their ability - even though they run the chance of insulting you by their zeal?

Would you prefer none do anything but sit around and contemplate their own faith? What about the instruction by Jesus to go into all the world and spread the gospel?

Does this mean you dispute what Jesus said to do to be saved? Do you say that Jesus and the Lord have no right to judge men as to their worthiness to live with God in eternity?

I agree on many of your points that true sense of peace and love of the Lord are often found more profoundly in nature and its beauty and wonders than in church or sermons.

But that is because men are doing the church and sermons with all their flaws. But why are they? Because they love man enough to want to show him Jesus and what Jesus means for their eternal life. Whereas you with your views care nothing for others - just your own view of peace.

So religion from your point-of-view does nothing to save other men - only yourself.

As far as the statements Bush made after the World Trade Center. So sorry he did not say the world thinks this or that. But - if you remember - America is the nation he leads - not the world. America is the nation attacked and that lost thousands of its citizens. He was right in his speech and he is right in his efforts for this country.

You handle the world and set about saving them with your views. President Bush and the American Christians will handle America.

We may make huge mistakes but the love is there for all of Americans as we see them travel a road of depravity and sin destroying this country. And, we will fight it.

Why? Because this country has been blessed by God and we have to make sure this country will continue to be blessed by God. We have to counter the mounting surge of Islam to take over this great land as they are taking over other nations.

Sitting back and enjoying the wonders of nature and condemning all evangicals will not save us from assault and will not try and show the world that God loves them and wants them to serve Him - not the devil.

It doesn't take much to get an "Amen" from MurryMom. Only Christian-bashing is necessary.

To: MurryMom; All
FReepers, our friend MurryMom, who attacks our president as a war monger, has failed to show one post she made on FreeRepublic that criticized Bill Clinton and the bombs he dropped on the Serbs. She has not commented on the severe pollution of the Danube when he bombed a chemical plant. She has not commented on innocent people killed. She has not commented on the incredible and deliberate destruction of the infrastructure, preventing mothers from getting food and water to their children.

Why do you suppose she shoots off her mouth and refuses to provide even one post of criticism? It is because she is a typical DemocRAT. If Clinton were in charge right now, the invasion of Iraq would be fine. That is what it is about.

Milosevic was a minor leaguer compared to the mass graves of Saddam Hussein. But it doesn't matter. George Bush is in charge so it is bad. She doesn't give a damn that what she and the others on the left are doing does damage to our troops morale. It is all about politics.

Intellectual honesty? MurryMom doesn't need no stinking intellectual honesty.
