Boxer: Filibuster to Block Anti-Abortion Supreme Court Candidate
AP ^ | July 5, 2005 | Justin M. Norton

Democrats are prepared to filibuster to block any anti-abortion nominee proposed to replace Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., said Tuesday.

"The filibuster is on the table. It's been on the table for 200 years," Boxer said when asked what methods could be used to block a Supreme Court candidate who would seek to overturn Roe v. Wade, the three-decade old decision legalizing abortion.

Boxer called a threat to legalized abortion an "extraordinary circumstance."

"It means a minimum of 5,000 women a year will die. So all options are on the table," she said.

Boxer called O'Connor a crucial moderate voice, saying the first female appointed to the high court was a strong backer of environmentalism and reproductive rights.

"She has been a powerful voice for moderation," Boxer said. "This is a philosophy her successor should embrace ... We cannot go back to the dark days. Roe must remain the law of the land."

"I live in California - tell me what my chances are of ousting a Republican Senator anytime soon?"

None. I am hoping to invite you to a national campaign to work to oust DeWine, if Kassich runs. If we could accomplish that, it would send a message. The national campaign to oust Specter almost worked. Toomey only lost 51% to 49%---and Bush had to come to PA twice to get it done.

By the way, I lived in CA for awhile. Great system of voter Propositions! I was a politically uninvolved Liberal at that time, but I never missed an election, because I could walk in with no preparation and read the Propositions, written in plain English, and vote on them. This is impossible in PA, where the propositions are always designed to sound like their opposite, and everyone must memorize which way they are voting before they go to the polls.

I've said we should take the amount those 50 million babies would have been contributing... And take it out of the SS checks of anyone who supported widescale abortion.

Edwin Meese was just on Hannity and Colmes and was saying that if "Chuckie" Schumer and Teddy Kennedy don't quit lying about what is in the constitution re: the requirements for what the president does/doesn't have to do, there will not be an easy time...

The funny thing was, when it was Alan Colmes turn to ask Mr. Meese questions, Alan said, "That is Charles A. Schumer, to you, sir!" Really indignant....I love it---Alan is gonna have a meltdown over this one!

All she cares about is abortion. That is how she became a representative from her area. Then ran for and was electerd as senator. Never had a viable candidate to run against her.

Funny how Babs once argued that American taxpayers should pay $30 million to the female-hating Taliban regime. Didn't hear a peep out of her back then about oppressing women.

Roe must remain the law of the land.

So then get your party to pass an ammendment Babs. That's how you get it to remain the law of the land. Until then Roe is fair game.

The only thing voting for the constitution party gets you is anti life democrats.

People that vote for the constitution party are responsible for having harry reid in office. Reid got 49 percent of the vote and the republican and constitution party split the 51 percent.

Reid won by 421 votes, constitution party got 8,000 votes.

Voting for the third party got us two liberal supreme court justices in ruth bader ginsberg and stephen breyer. Yeah that really worked out voting for Perot we really showed them.

A vote for the constitution party or libertarian party which were kerry's water boys paying for a recount to help kerry is a vote for the democrats and against your own values.

Anyone that votes for the constitution party is just helping out the democrats win.

Dang, that's a happy bunch of socialists and marxists. I hope during the hearings the republicans are ready and will have a rapid reaction response to the attacks to come. They need to go in with silver bullets, garlic, and wooden stakes and do battle with the powers of darkness. Remember the dems only lie. Do not listen to their words, for we have seen their works and they tell us all that we need to know. When they begin with a smile and affibility, know that they will soon degenerate to the bowels of hell. They will stop at nothing to achieve their end. We are at the edge of the conquering these savages who would kill your children for power.

So, to the republicans, to President Bush to all of the Freepers, let your sac hang low. Do it right and do it now. Nothing less than the constitution and freedom is at stake.

Since the Republicans control both houses, they should pass continuing resolutions immediately so the government remains able to operate in the event that the budget is not approved because of the impending filibuster. Once that is done, let Boxer and her little friends wax on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on, etc., etc. resting comfortably until the Boxerites and their fellow travelers wear out. At the first moment that the filibusterers fail to hold the floor, seize it and hold it until enough is jammed down the bastards' throat that they will (try to) think twice before trying to jam the tyranny of the minority down the majority's throat.

If the Senate Pubbies can't grow the stones needed to overcome this yenta from Brooklyn, then they might as well become 'Rats themselves.
