Boxer: Filibuster to Block Anti-Abortion Supreme Court Candidate
AP ^ | July 5, 2005 | Justin M. Norton

Democrats are prepared to filibuster to block any anti-abortion nominee proposed to replace Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., said Tuesday.

"The filibuster is on the table. It's been on the table for 200 years," Boxer said when asked what methods could be used to block a Supreme Court candidate who would seek to overturn Roe v. Wade, the three-decade old decision legalizing abortion.

Boxer called a threat to legalized abortion an "extraordinary circumstance."

"It means a minimum of 5,000 women a year will die. So all options are on the table," she said.

Boxer called O'Connor a crucial moderate voice, saying the first female appointed to the high court was a strong backer of environmentalism and reproductive rights.

"She has been a powerful voice for moderation," Boxer said. "This is a philosophy her successor should embrace ... We cannot go back to the dark days. Roe must remain the law of the land."

Barbara, you sweet, fun loving, SOB! You support the killing of nearly one million lives a year! Barbara baby, let me ask you this question so that even you can understand it? If you had to choose between the loss of 5000 (your estimate not mine) women's lives and hundreds of thousands babies' lives (CDC statistics), which one would your liberal mind pick? To quote Dan Akroyd's quip to Jane Curtain from years gone by, "Babs, you ignorant bitch, get a life".......................

Bush holds all the cards in this deal.

The Democrats MIGHT get one filibuster -- but just one. After that, the balloon will be deflated and it will appear justifiable to pursue the constitutional option. If Democrats filibuster the first nominee, they won't dare get away with filibustering the second. If the first doesn't get through, Bush will have carte blanche to nominate the MOST conservative nominee the court has ever seen, and the Democrats will have to just sit back and watch the steamroller headed their way.

They need to go in with silver bullets, garlic, and wooden stakes and do battle with the powers of darkness.
Remember the dems only lie.
Do not listen to their words, for we have seen their works and they tell us all that we need to know.

You are a poet sir.

And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and [upon] them which worshipped his image.3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead [man]: and every living soul died in the sea.4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous [are] thy judgments. 8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds. 12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs [come] out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, [which] go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed [is] he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

I couldn't figure out whixh one is stupider, Boxer or Pelosi, so I flipped a coin. Incredibly enough they are equally stupid as the coin landed on its edge.

Hyperbole? Hardly. The primary functions of the government of a free country are the protection of life, liberty, and property. It is hard to argue they protect life, e.g. Terri Schiavo. It is hard to argue they protect liberty, considering, e.g. 20,000 gun control laws when such are explicitly forbidden. And with the 5th Amendment gutted, private property no longer exists as a concept within federal law; rather, the "public benefit" of highest taxation is considered "public use" and the government may take any property from anyone, "justly" pay for it, and transfer it to whomever it wishes, usually the more powerful or politically connected.

Good thing you weren't around in 1776 - you don't know the difference between a "pity party" and a revolution, do you?

Reid got 49 percent of the vote and the republican and constitution party split the 51 percent. Reid won by 421 votes, constitution party got 8,000 votes. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/elections/2004/page/21193/ Which election are you referring to? In the latest one (2004), Reid received 490,232 votes (or 61% NOT 49%). The Republican, Richard Ziser, received only 35% with 282,255 votes. Nonetheless, if GWB appoints another Souter, it matters not whether the GOP or Dems win anymore.
